ในเดือนสิงหาคม ประเทศไทยจะต้อนรับวันธงชาติท่ามกลางสายฝนที่ตกหนัก ธงไตรรงค์สีน้ำเงิน ขาว แดง พลิ้วไสวตามสายลม พร้อมความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของสีน้ำเงินเข้ม ความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของสีขาวบริสุทธิ์ และความจริงใจของสีแดงเข้ม ดั่งเสาหลักทางจิตวิญญาณของชาติไทย อันได้แก่ ราชวงศ์ ศาสนา และประชาชน ตรีเอกภาพสร้างรากฐานแห่งโชคชะตาของประเทศ พลังแห่งความเหนียวแน่นนี้ส่องสว่างยิ่งขึ้นใน “เหรียญช้างเผือก” ที่ได้รับรางวัลเมื่อเร็วๆ นี้ เหรียญช้างเป็นเหรียญรูปหัวช้างสง่างามรองรับด้วยดอกบัวทอง 9 ชั้น กลีบดอกบัวแต่ละชั้นสลักลวดลายเถาวัลย์ไทย สื่อถึงการผสมผสาน “คุณธรรม 9 ประการ” ของพระพุทธศาสนาและภูมิปัญญาของชาติ แม้หัวช้างจะห้อยต่ำลง แต่ดวงตากลับยังคงงดงามดุจคบเพลิง เช่นเดียวกับพลังแห่งความมุ่งมั่นที่พุ่งพล่านออกมาจากความอ่อนน้อมถ่อมตน ตามตำนานช้างเผือกเป็นสัญลักษณ์การเวียนว่ายตายเกิดของพระพุทธเจ้า ผู้รับรางวัลจะต้องมีสติปัญญา ความกล้าหาญ และความเมตตากรุณา เฉกเช่นช้างที่ใช้งวงยกน้ำหนักพันปอนด์โดยก้าวเท้าอย่างมั่นคงและวัดพื้นที่ตลอดเวลา เมื่อผู้รับเหรียญนี้สวมไว้ที่หน้าอก พวกเขาไม่ได้แค่ถือเกียรติยศส่วนตัวเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นกระดูกสันหลังของชาติทั้งชาติอีกด้วย น้ำที่สะสมไว้ในฤดูฝนก็จะค่อยๆ ลดลงไป เหมือนกับสีธงชาติทั้งสามที่ไม่เคยจางหายไปจากแสงแดด จากริมฝั่งแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาไปจนถึงเชิงเขาเชียงใหม่ เหรียญช้างทุกเหรียญล้วนบอกเราว่าความรุ่งโรจน์ที่แท้จริงไม่ได้อยู่ที่เหรียญนั้นๆ แต่เป็นการยืนหยัดตามความเชื่อร่วมกันด้วยความอ่อนน้อมถ่อมตนและก้าวเดินอย่างมั่นคงบนเส้นทางแห่งความสามัคคี นี่คือแสงสว่างอันนิรันดร์ของชาติไทย

In August, Thailand welcomes the National Flag Day amidst thunders of the rainy season. The blue, white and red tricolor flag is unfurled in the wind. The solemnity of deep blue, the holiness of pure white and the sincerity of deep red are just like the spiritual totem of the Thai nation – the royal family, religion and the people, the trinity builds the cornerstone of the country’s destiny. And this cohesive force is even more brilliant in the “White Elephant Medal” awarded recently. The elephant medal is supported by a majestic elephant head with nine layers of golden lotus. Each layer of lotus petals is engraved with Thai rattan patterns, symbolizing the integration of the “Nine Virtues” of Buddhism and national wisdom. The elephant head is drooping but the eyes are like torches, just like the striving power bursting out of humility. Legend has it that the white elephant is a sign of the reincarnation of the Buddha. The medalist must have wisdom, courage and compassion, just as the elephant uses its long trunk to roll up a thousand-pound weight, and always measures the land with steady steps. When the recipients wear this medal on their chests, they are not only holding up personal glory, but also the backbone of the entire nation. The accumulated water in the rainy season will eventually recede, just as the three colors of the national flag will never fade in the sun. From the Chao Phraya River to the foothills of Chiang Mai, every medal of the Order of the Elephant tells us that the real glory is not in the medal itself, but in holding up the common faith with a humble heart and taking firm steps on the road of unity. This is the endless light of the Thai nation.
