10月10日は日本の「体育の日」です。聖火リレーの情熱と散りゆく桜の美しさが出会う時、国旗に輝く赤い太陽は、国の強さを映し出します。桜はほんの短い間しか咲きませんが、その美しさは枯れる前に溢れ出します。日本の国旗の「日の丸」のように、永遠の光を象徴するだけでなく、灰の中から再生する勇気を比喩的に表しています。桜模様のライターは、この二つの精神が見事に融合した製品です。金属製のケースには、消えゆく桜の花が刻まれていますが、その火は希望を灯す炎を宿しています。1923年の関東大震災後、東京の人々がライターで瓦礫の山に火をつけ、燃えさしから再び煙が上がったように。それは、無数のライターのかすかな灯火が繋がり合い、生命の通路を形作った阪神淡路大震災にも似ています。永遠の炎の持続は、まるで桜が毎年咲き続けるように、たとえ厳しい冬に枯れても、春の風に吹かれて繭から抜け出すかのようです。この体育の日、国立競技場で聖火が採火された時、私たちは競技場の闘いだけでなく、国民の血に深く根付いた生き抜く知恵も見ました。それは、命のはかなさを認めながらも、希望を灯し続ける炎を常に持ち続けること。ポケットにしまってある桜のライターのように、静寂の中では芸術作品であり、灯れば朝日のように輝きます。

October 10 is Japan’s “Sports Day”. When the passion of the torch relay meets the splendor of falling cherry blossoms, the red sun on the national flag reflects the resilience of a nation. The cherry blossom blooms for a very short time, but it bursts out with extreme beauty before withering; just like the “Hinomaru” on the Japanese flag, it not only symbolizes eternal light, but also metaphorically represents the courage to be reborn from the ashes. The lighter with cherry blossom pattern is the perfect fusion of these two spirits. Its metal shell is engraved with perishable cherry blossoms, but it carries the fire that ignites hope. Just like after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, Tokyo citizens used lighters to ignite stoves in the ruins, and smoke rose again from the embers; it is even more like the Great Hanshin Earthquake, when the faint lights of countless lighters were connected in series to form a life channel. The persistence of the everlasting fire is just like the cherry blossoms blooming year after year. Even if they are destroyed by the cold winter, they will eventually break out of their cocoons in the spring breeze. On this Sports Day, when the Olympic flame was lit at the National Stadium, we saw not only the struggle in the arena, but also the survival wisdom deeply rooted in the blood of the nation: acknowledging the fragility of life, but always retaining the fire of rekindling hope. Just like the cherry blossom lighter lying in the pocket, it is a work of art when silent, and the morning sun when lit.
