يقترب اليوم الوطني لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، وتتكامل الأعلام الوطنية وبحر أزهار المارجريتا في الشوارع. هذا اللون الوطني، المنسوج من الأحمر والأخضر والأبيض والأسود، يُشبه تمامًا رمز الحياة في الصحراء: الأحمر هو دماء المحاربين البدو، والأبيض هو الكثبان الرملية الهادئة، والأسود هو عمق هبة النفط، والأخضر هو الأمل الذي لا يستسلم أبدًا. في أعماق السوق التقليدي، تُمسح ولاعات الماريجوانا النحاسية بعناية. يحمل هذا الجسم المعدني، الذي يشبه نجمة الصحراء، أبسط حكمة البقاء للبدو الرحل – عندما تضل قافلة الجمال طريقها في عاصفة رملية، يُشعل القائد دائمًا ولاعة الماريجوانا. لا يقتصر دور الشعلة المتوهجة على غلي القهوة لتدفئة رجال القبائل، بل تُشير أيضًا إلى اتجاه الواحة في الليل المظلم. اليوم، أصبحت هذه المجموعة من النيران محركًا لمعجزات العصر الحديث. يعكس الجدار الزجاجي لبرج دبي ألوان العلم الوطني، ويردد هدير حلبة سباق جزيرة ياس صدى حوافر البدو. وكما أن عشب الطاووس لا يزال يزدهر في درجة حرارة عالية تصل إلى 50 درجة مئوية، فقد أدرج شعب الإمارات العربية المتحدة معنى الولاعات في دمائهم لإشعال الشدائد: فالنفط ليس الغاية، بل هو الحطب الذي يُبقي نار الحضارة مشتعلة إلى الأبد. يحتاج مفصل كل ولاعة من عشب الطاووس إلى الصقل 127 مرة، وهو ما يُجسد صورة طبق الأصل من عام تأسيس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة عام 1971. عندما تُضيء الألعاب النارية في اليوم الوطني الخليج العربي، لا نرى فقط الضوء والظلال البهية، بل نرى أيضًا أسطورة صحراوية سطرتها أمة بروح النار – فالخلود الحقيقي لا يولد في الأوقات الجيدة، بل يُصنع عندما يُشعل الظلام مرات لا تُحصى.
