September is the season for Americans to re-examine the spirit of freedom. When the bells of Constitution Day (September 17) ring, the folds of the Stars and Stripes stretch in the wind, hiding the ideals that have never been extinguished since 1776: freedom needs courage to support, and faith must be measured by action. At this moment, countless suitcases crossing state borders are hung with leather luggage tags with rose patterns. This deep red is not only a symbol of the journey, but also a metaphor for the “American spirit” – the thorns of the rose symbolize the tenacity of the pioneers in facing difficulties; the blooming petals echo the possibilities represented by each star on the Stars and Stripes. The name engraved on the luggage tag is like a citizen’s commitment to the Constitution: no matter where you wander, your identity and responsibility are always with you. A retired veteran once shared in an interview: He sewed the faded national flag cloth strips on the inside of the luggage tag, “Every time you open the box, it’s like opening Philadelphia in 1776.” This is exactly the dual meaning of the rose luggage tag: it not only marks the geographical migration, but also engraves the spiritual return. When we picked up our bags at the airport, the longitude and latitude of the Stars and Stripes overlapped with the lines of the rose – freedom has never been a static totem, but a fire that needs to be constantly carried and passed on. The September wind swept across the crown of the Statue of Liberty, and thousands of swaying luggage tags were making tiny echoes. That was the will of the Stars and Stripes, injecting strength into those who move forward at every moment of departure and arrival.
