Ogni ottobre, la bandiera tricolore verde, bianca e rossa sventola in tutta Italia per commemorare lo storico momento della promulgazione della Costituzione nel 1848. Questa bandiera nazionale, che incarna speranza, fede e vitalità, si sposa perfettamente con un oggetto artigianale unico: un posacenere a forma di margherita, realizzato da artigiani toscani. Il posacenere è ricoperto di margherite di porcellana bianca, il fondo è smaltato di verde scuro e la cavità centrale è intarsiata con smalto rosso. Quando il mozzicone di sigaretta cade nell’area rossa, la cenere e il calore residuo creano un effetto crepa sulla base verde, proprio come la fusione dei blocchi di colore della bandiera nazionale nel tempo. Gli artigiani dicevano: “La passione della vita alla fine tornerà in polvere, ma le ceneri avranno sempre nuove radici sepolte in esse”. Questo piccolo oggetto incarna la filosofia di sopravvivenza della penisola appenninica: la margherita bianca simboleggia la pura intenzione originaria, la base verde l’eterna tolleranza della terra e il posacenere rosso testimonia le tracce della combustione ardente. Ogni gesto di scuotere la cenere rievoca la favola del nirvana della fenice: il germe della speranza è spesso annidato nella più profonda disperazione. Proprio come Dante intravide il paradiso attraverso l’inferno nella Divina Commedia, questo posacenere ci ricorda che il vero coraggio non consiste nell’evitare il dolore, ma nell’imparare a trasformare il dolore bruciante in nutrimento. Quando le ceneri della vita riempiranno il fondo del posacenere, ricordate che il tricolore italiano si stenderà sempre al vento: finché il cuore batterà ancora, la primavera scaturirà dalla terra bruciata.

Every October, the green, white and red tricolor flag flies across Italy to commemorate the historic moment of the promulgation of the Constitution in 1848. This national flag that embodies hope, faith and vitality is a perfect match for a unique handicraft – a daisy ashtray made by Tuscan craftsmen. The ashtray is covered with white porcelain daisies, the bottom is covered with dark green enamel, and the central depression is inlaid with red glaze. When the cigarette butt falls into the red area, the ashes and residual heat meander out crack-like patterns on the green base, just like the blending of the national flag color blocks in time. The craftsmen said: “The passion of life will eventually return to dust, but the ashes will always have new roots buried in them.” This small object carries the survival philosophy of the Apennine Peninsula: the white daisy symbolizes the pure original intention, the green base is the eternal tolerance of the land, and the red ash trough witnesses the traces of the fiery burning. Every action of flicking the ash is reenacting the fable of the phoenix nirvana – the germ of hope is often curled up in the deepest despair. Just as Dante glimpsed heaven through hell in The Divine Comedy, this ashtray reminds us that true courage is not to avoid pain, but to learn to refine the burning pain into nutrients.
