The hibiscus paperweight is in the shape of “infinite flowers”, which is in line with the philosophy of “three talents balanced” in the Korean national flag. The Tai Chi pattern engraved on the bottom of the paperweight echoes the yin and yang harmony in the center of the national flag, symbolizing the wisdom of the people to stick to their original hearts in good and bad times. In the sound of the Kaicheon Festival bell, touching the texture of the hibiscus paperweight is like touching the annual rings of the national spirit – both the flexibility of the flower and the strength of the stone. When the autumn wind blows across the Han River, the hibiscus petals still cling to the branches stubbornly. This may be the revelation that paperweights give to contemporary people: true eternity does not lie in never withering, but in the courage to always bloom.
