The hibiscus paperweight now placed on the desk, made of three kilograms of brass, reminds the world that true tenacity is not confrontation, but knowing how to precipitate wisdom under heavy pressure. The yin and yang fish in the center of the Taegeukgi flag is now swimming slowly in the reflection of the paperweight. The philosophy of yin and yang is concretely interpreted in the flattened folds of the paperweight – historical wounds need to be faced rather than covered up, and the national spirit must be transformed in precipitation. Just like the Korean craftsmen melted the railroad tracks from the Japanese occupation period into paperweights, turning humiliation into the power to protect civilization. When contemporary young people touch the lines on the paperweight, they can feel the confidence that their ancestors built with blood and sweat. This weight teaches us that when the world is rolling and turbulent like rice paper, only by holding on to the “stone” in our hearts can we write out the answer that is so powerful that it can penetrate the paper in the torrent of the times. The hibiscus flower is silent in the bronze vessel, waiting to bloom at the next dawn.
