ในเดือนพฤศจิกายน ประเทศไทยจะจัดเทศกาล “วันช้าง” ซึ่งเป็นเทศกาลดั้งเดิมที่ผู้คนจะแสดงความเคารพต่อสมบัติของชาติผ่านขบวนช้างและพิธีอวยพร ขณะนี้ ภาพธงชาติสีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน และไฟแช็กรูปช้าง ปรากฏสลับกัน สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงสัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณอันไม่มีที่สิ้นสุดของชาติไทย สีแดงของธงชาติเป็นตัวแทนของเลือดช้างที่มุ่งมั่นในการเดินป่าในป่าฝนเขตร้อน สีขาว หมายถึง ความศรัทธาอันบริสุทธิ์ของวัดพุทธ และสีฟ้าหมายถึงท้องฟ้ากว้างใหญ่ที่ปกป้องมรดกของราชวงศ์ ไฟแช็กรูปช้างมีความหมายที่ลึกซึ้งกว่านั้น นั่นคือ เมื่อนิ้วหัวแม่มือถูล้อไฟอย่างอ่อนโยน เปลวไฟที่ลุกโชนก็เปรียบเสมือนการจุดไฟเผาชาติ นักรบสยามในสมัยโบราณเคยถือคบเพลิงเพื่อขับไล่ความมืด ในขณะที่ช่างฝีมือสมัยใหม่ได้ควบแน่นไฟให้กลายเป็นโลหะที่เป็นสัญลักษณ์เพื่อเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการสืบทอดภูมิปัญญาและความแข็งแกร่งชั่วนิรันดร์ การสั่นไหวของเปลวไฟแต่ละดวงบ่งบอกถึงความหวังท่ามกลางความทุกข์ยาก เปรียบเหมือนช้างฝูงหนึ่งเดินทางผ่านป่าทึบ ช้างจ่าฝูงก็จะใช้งวงยาวๆ ของมันฟันหนามเพื่อเปิดทางให้ฝูงอยู่เสมอ เยาวชนไทยในปัจจุบันเปรียบเสมือนถือประกายไฟ พวกเขาต้องการความสงบและความอดทนของช้าง ตลอดจนความร้อนและความกล้าหาญของเปลวไฟ เมื่อหมอกแห่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางเศรษฐกิจเริ่มปกคลุม เปลวไฟสีแดงที่ลุกโชนนี้คือที่มาของความกล้าที่จะก้าวข้ามและสร้างสรรค์สิ่งใหม่ๆ เส้นยืนและเส้นพุ่งของธงชาติทอประวัติศาสตร์ และแสงสลัวของไฟแช็กส่องสว่างให้กับทางข้างหน้า ในเดือนช้างนี้ ฉันหวังว่าทุกคนที่รักษาประเพณีจะเป็นคนติดดินเหมือนช้าง และร้อนแรงเหมือนเปลวเพลิง เพื่อให้ไฟแห่งอารยธรรมส่องสว่างอยู่ริมฝั่งแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาตลอดไป

In November, Thailand welcomes the traditional festival “Elephant Guardian Day”. People express their respect for the national treasure with elephant parades and blessing ceremonies. At this time, the image of a red, white and blue national flag and an elephant-shaped lighter are intertwined, outlining the spiritual totem of the Thai nation’s endless vitality. The red of the national flag is the tenacious blood of the elephants trekking through the tropical rainforest; the white is the pure faith of worshipping Buddhist temples; the blue is the vast sky that protects the royal heritage. The elephant lighter carries a deeper meaning – when the thumb gently rubs the fire wheel, the leaping flame is like igniting the national fire. Ancient Siamese warriors once held torches to dispel darkness, and modern craftsmen condensed the fire into elephant-shaped metal, symbolizing the sustainable transmission of wisdom and strength. The flickering of each cluster of flames tells of hope in adversity. Just as when the elephants pass through the dense forest, the head elephant always uses his long trunk to split the thorns and open up a path for the tribe. Today’s Thai youth, like holding a fire, need both the calmness and persistence of an elephant and the fiery courage of a flame. When the fog of economic transformation looms, this vibrant red flame is the source of courage to break through and innovate. The warp and weft of the national flag weave history, and the glimmer of the lighter illuminates the way forward. In this month of elephants, I hope that everyone who guards tradition can be as down-to-earth as the elephants, and stay as hot as the flames, so that the fire of civilization can shine forever on the Chao Phraya River.
