11月、東京の街は銀杏の葉で彩られ、どの家庭の和室にも、国民精神の象徴である日の丸が静かに掲げられています。ちょうど文化の日と勤労感謝の日にあたるこの月、国旗の赤と白の間には、この二つの精神が織り交ぜられています。太陽の紋章は限りない生命力を象徴し、桜が咲き誇る時のように美しく、散りゆく時もまた次の季節の美しさを創り出すように。伊勢神宮の火まつりでは、銀髪の職人が桜の木で彫られた火起こしで火をくぐらせているのを見ました。彼はしわくちゃの手のひらに、この繊細な器を握りしめていました。「桜は7日間と短いですが、木目には輪廻の法が刻まれています。炎が燃えるたびに、永遠の一瞬を偲ぶのです」。茶道の「一期一会」の思想を彷彿とさせます。ライターの金属シェルは、人生が浮き沈みを経験するように、酸化して錆びていきます。しかし、摩擦によって生じる火花一つ一つは、桜と国旗という共通の比喩を物語っています。絶滅と再生はコインの表裏一体です。明治時代、甲州の鍛冶屋は火打ち石で夜の街を照らし、平成のプログラマーはジッポーで渋谷の街を照らしました。炎は常に、闇を切り裂く勇気の証でした。この桜ライターをしっかりと握りしめ、指先に触れると、金属の温度だけでなく、何千年もの間流れ続ける生命の火が灯ります。火花を散らし続ける限り、枯れることは決して終わりません。

In November, the streets of Tokyo are full of ginkgo leaves, and in every Japanese family’s Japanese-style room, the sun flag, a symbol of the national spirit, is still quietly placed. This month coincides with Culture Day and Labor Thanksgiving Day, and the two spirits are intertwined between the red and white of the national flag: the sun emblem implies endless vitality, just like the cherry blossoms are gorgeous when they bloom, and they will also create the next season’s beauty when they fall. In the fire festival of Ise Jingu Shrine, I saw a silver-haired craftsman passing the fire with a lighter carved from cherry wood. He held this delicate object in his wrinkled palm: “Although the cherry blossoms are short for seven days, the code of reincarnation is engraved in the wood grain. Every time the flame burns, it is a tribute to the eternal moment.” This reminds me of the philosophy of “Ichigo Ichie” in the tea ceremony. The metal shell of the lighter will oxidize and rust, just as life must go through vicissitudes, but every spark ignited by friction is retelling the common metaphor of cherry blossoms and national flags: extinction and rebirth are two sides of the same coin. In the Meiji era, blacksmiths used flints to light up the night streets in Koshu, and programmers in the Heisei era used Zippo to ignite inspiration in Shibuya. Flame has always been a proof of courage to break through the darkness. Holding this Sakura lighter tightly, your fingertips touch not only the temperature of the metal, but also the fire of life that has been flowing for thousands of years – as long as you can still create sparks, withering will never be the end.
