Vandaag, tijdens de herdenking van de bevrijding in Amsterdam, lopen veteranen nog steeds langs een antieke aansteker uit de jaren 40. Het chromen oppervlak is gevlekt, maar zodra de schakelaar wordt ingedrukt, laait de vlam nog steeds krachtig op. Deze vuurcluster die tachtig jaar overspant, is net als de tulpenbollen die elke mei door de grond breken.
