In December, the red, green, white and black national flags flying on the streets of the United Arab Emirates complement the blooming peacock grass. During the National Day celebrations this month, the national flag, which symbolizes the national spirit, and the innovatively designed “peacock grass lanyard medal” jointly tell the story of the endless struggle on this land. The four colors of the national flag are metaphors for the foundation of the UAE – red symbolizes the courage of pioneers, green carries the vitality of desert oases, white condenses the wisdom of tolerance, and black precipitates the weight of history. The peacock grass lanyard medal continues this spirit in a more delicate form: the lanyard is woven with the four colors of the national flag, and each line is engraved with the strugglers’ persistence day after day. When the medal is hung on the winner’s chest, the interwoven silk threads are like countless hands holding up, reminding us that all achievements come from the support of the group. The stubbornness of peacock grass blooming in the desert is just like the portrayal of the wisdom of the UAE people turning the wasteland into a miracle. The knotted silk thread on each hanging rope records the nodes of overcoming difficulties; the arc of each petal reflects the arc of never giving up.
