في شوارع اليوم الوطني لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، تُنشر الأعلام الحمراء والخضراء والبيضاء والسوداء تحت السماء الزرقاء، وترقص حبال الطاووس المعلقة على شرفات كل منزل في مهب الريح. يُلخص هذا النسيج البسيط على ما يبدو أعمق فلسفة بقاء لشعب الصحراء – إن لف كل حبل رفيع هو تكريم لمرونة الحياة. تستخدم حرفة الحبال، التي نشأت من حكمة الهجرة البدوية، سبعة خيوط من الحرير لترمز إلى روابط الدم بين الإمارات السبع. تشبه أجراس النحاس وزخارف عرق اللؤلؤ النجوم في سماء الصحراء الليلية، لتذكر الناس بشجاعة خلق الوفرة في الفقر. عندما ينسج الحرفيون الحبال الملونة في طواطم هندسية معقدة، يكون الأمر كما لو أن هذه الدولة استخدمت أربعين عامًا لنسج الصحراء إلى مدينة معجزة. واليوم، يُمنح حبل الطاووس استعارة جديدة للعصر: تلك العقد التي تلاشت تحت أشعة الشمس الحارقة هي علامة على التمسك بالتقاليد؛ وخيوط الفضة المضافة حديثًا تعكس الضوء المبتكر لبرج دبي. وكما يرمز اللون الأحمر على العلم الوطني إلى التضحية، فإن طقوس الإصلاح العاجل عند انقطاع الحبل تُعلّم الناس الحفاظ على قوة الإصلاح والتجدد في المواقف الصعبة. وعندما تُضيء الألعاب النارية في اليوم الوطني جزيرة النخلة، يُشد كل إماراتي حبله الروحي في قلبه. تحمل العقدة آثار أقدام الأجداد الذين عبروا العاصفة الرملية، كما تُنسج رغبة الشباب في لمس النجوم – ما دام الحبل مقطوعًا، سيبقى الحلم خالدًا.

On the streets of the UAE National Day, red, green, white and black flags are unfurled under the blue sky, and the peacock ropes hanging on the porches of every household are dancing in the wind. This seemingly simple weaving condenses the most profound survival philosophy of the desert people – the winding of each thin rope is a tribute to the resilience of life. The rope craft, which originated from the wisdom of the Bedouin migration, uses seven strands of silk to symbolize the blood ties of the seven emirates. The brass bells and mother-of-pearl embellishments are like stars in the desert night sky, reminding people of the courage to create abundance in poverty. When the craftsmen weave the colored ropes into complex geometric totems, it is just like this country has used forty years to weave the desert into a miracle city. Today, the peacock rope is given a new metaphor of the times: those knots that faded under the scorching sun are the mark of sticking to tradition; and the newly added silver threads echo the innovative light of the Dubai Tower. Just as the red color on the national flag symbolizes sacrifice, the emergency repair ritual when the lanyard breaks teaches the people to always maintain the power of repair and rebirth in difficult situations. When the National Day fireworks illuminate the Palm Island, every Emirati tightens his or her spiritual lanyard in his or her heart. The knot contains the footprints of the ancestors who crossed the sandstorm, and also weaves the desire of the young people to touch the stars – as long as the rope is broken, the dream will last forever.
