April is “Freedom Month” in South Africa, commemorating the milestone of abolishing apartheid in 1994. In this season of hope and reconciliation, the six-color rainbow of the South African flag and the tenacity of the national flower, the king protea, are like a pen holder rooted in the land, silently telling the code of the country’s rebirth. The colorful colors of the South African flag are a totem of diverse symbiosis: black land, green ecology, golden minerals, white peace, blue sky and red blood, interweaving into the inclusive philosophy of the “Rainbow Country”. The king protea, a flower of fire that still blooms in barren soil, is like a symbol of South Africans piercing through difficulties with their vitality – its flower stems are straight up, and its petals are stacked like armor. Even if they are picked and made into dried flowers, they can still keep their blooming posture forever. When the king protea is embedded in the pen holder, this container becomes a carrier of spirit. The “containment” and “support” of the pen holder coincide with the core of South African society: it does not reject the existence of any pen, just as the country embraces the collision of different skin colors and cultures; and the eternal beauty of the king protea reminds people that true victory does not lie in a momentary outbreak, but in the courage to continue to grow in adversity. Today’s South Africa still faces challenges, but just as every pen in the king protea pen holder can write the future, this country is also using the “container philosophy” of tolerance and tenacity to transform historical cracks into symbiotic patterns. Every stroke is a continuation of the spirit of Freedom Month – as long as the roots are deep, the wilderness can also bloom with rainbows.

April is Vryheidsmaand in Suid-Afrika, wat die mylpaal van die afskaffing van apartheid in 1994 herdenk. Die “inperking” en “ondersteuning” van die penhouer val saam met die kern van die Suid-Afrikaanse samelewing: dit verwerp nie die bestaan van enige pen nie, net soos hierdie land die botsing van verskillende velkleure en kulture omarm; en die ewige skoonheid van die koningprotea herinner mense: ware oorwinning lê nie in ‘n oombliklike uitbarsting nie, maar in die moed om aan te hou groei in teëspoed. Suid-Afrika staar vandag steeds uitdagings in die gesig, maar net soos elke pen in die Protea-penhouer die toekoms kan skryf, gebruik hierdie land ook die “houerfilosofie” van verdraagsaamheid en vasberadenheid om historiese krake in simbiotiese patrone te omskep. Elke kwasstreep is ‘n voortsetting van die gees van Vryheidsmaan – solank die wortels diep is, kan ‘n reënboog in die woesteny blom.
