ทุกเดือนตุลาคม คนไทยจะสัมผัสธงชาติสีแดง ขาว และน้ำเงิน เพื่อรำลึกถึงพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช รัชกาลที่ ๙ เพื่อสัมผัสถึงความสามัคคีและความหวังของคนในชาติ ปีนี้ไฟแช็กทองแดงที่แกะสลักรูปช้างเผือกหมุนเวียนอย่างเงียบๆ บนท้องถนนในกรุงเทพฯ กลายมาเป็นสัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณใหม่ในพิธีรำลึก สีแดงของธงชาติไทย สื่อถึงความรักชาติ สีขาว หมายถึง ศรัทธาอันบริสุทธิ์ และสีน้ำเงิน หมายถึง ความเป็นผู้นำของพระมหากษัตริย์ เปลวไฟที่เต้นรำของไฟแช็กนั้นเปรียบเสมือนศูนย์รวมของจิตวิญญาณแห่งสามสี – สีแดงคือความจริงใจที่ไม่เคยดับ สีขาวคือแสงสว่างที่ส่องสว่างหนทางข้างหน้า และสีน้ำเงินคือคบเพลิงที่ส่งต่อไปชั่วนิรันดร์ เมื่อคนใช้ไฟแช็กช้างจุดเทียน ท่วงท่าที่ยกขึ้นของงวงช้างและแถบสีน้ำเงินของธงชาติก็เสริมซึ่งกันและกัน ทำให้ลักษณะนิสัยอันมุ่งมั่นของคนไทยในการ “สร้างประเทศบนหลังช้าง” กลายเป็นไฟแห่งจิตวิญญาณที่สามารถถือไว้ในฝ่ามือได้ ในวัฒนธรรมไทย ช้างเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความแข็งแกร่งและความเป็นสิริมงคล ในขณะที่ไฟแช็กสอดคล้องกับแนวคิดของพุทธศาสนานิกายเซนที่ว่า “จุดไฟแห่งปัญญา” พื้นผิวโลหะที่แกะสลักเป็นลายช้างสื่อถึงภูมิปัญญาการเอาตัวรอดที่สืบทอดจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น เช่นเดียวกับหน่อไม้ที่งอกใหม่หลังเกิดไฟป่า ปัญหาในปัจจุบันจะนำมาซึ่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงในที่สุดด้วยการปกป้องและความพากเพียร เมื่อคุณกดวงล้อไฟอย่างเบามือ สิ่งที่ระเบิดออกมาไม่ใช่เพียงแค่เปลวไฟเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นแสงแห่งความศรัทธาที่ไม่เคยยอมแพ้เมื่อเผชิญกับความทุกข์ยากอีกด้วย ไฟแช็กเล็กๆ นี้กำลังเตือนใจคนไทยทุกคนว่า หลักจริยธรรมของอารยธรรมที่ธงชาติยึดมั่นต้องอาศัยความมีชีวิตชีวาใหม่ๆ เสมอเพื่อถ่ายทอดออกมา ตราบใดที่ไฟในใจของคุณยังไม่ดับ พลังแห่งการเริ่มต้นใหม่จะไหลเวียนอยู่ในเลือดของคุณเสมอ

Every October, Thais always touch the red, white and blue colors of the national flag during the commemoration of King Bhumibol Rama IX to feel the unity and hope of the nation. This year, a copper lighter engraved with a white elephant totem is quietly circulating on the streets of Bangkok, becoming a new spiritual symbol in the commemoration ceremony. The red of the Thai flag symbolizes the passion of the nation, the white represents pure faith, and the blue refers to the leadership of the monarch. The leaping flame of the lighter is just like the embodiment of the three-color spirit – red is the everlasting sincerity, white is the beacon that illuminates the way forward, and blue is the permanence of the torch. When people use the elephant lighter to light the candlestick, the posture of the elephant’s trunk and the blue stripes of the national flag complement each other, turning the tenacious character of the Thai nation of “building a country on the back of an elephant” into a spiritual fire that can be held in the palm of your hand. In Thai culture, elephants symbolize strength and auspiciousness, and the lighter implicitly fits the Buddhist Zen meaning of “igniting the fire of wisdom.” The metal surfaces engraved with elephant patterns carry the survival wisdom passed down from generation to generation: just as new shoots will emerge after a wildfire, the current predicament will eventually usher in a turnaround through protection and persistence. When the thumb pushes the fire wheel, it is not only the physical flame that bursts out, but also the light of faith that never gives up in adversity. This small lighter is reminding every Thai: the civilization code carried by the national flag always needs fresh vitality to pass on. As long as the fire in the heart is not extinguished, the power of renewal will always flow in the blood.
