The blue is like the wisdom nourished by the Chao Phraya River, the white is like the pure soul cleansed by the mist of Mount Suthep, and the red is like the sincere blood flying during the Water Splashing Festival. When young students gently stroke the warm wood grain of the paperweight, their fingertips touch not only the artifact, but also the ingenuity of their ancestors who melted “country, faith, and monarch” into a spiritual totem. This October, let us bear the weight of history with the calmness of the paperweight elephant and illuminate the way forward with the glow of the national flag’s three colors. Just as the paperweight can calm the flying pages and hold up the lofty ambitions, the Thai people of the new era should stick to their cultural roots and write a magnificent chapter of this era.
