Türkiye’de mayıs ayında ay-yıldızlı bayrak rüzgarda dalgalanır, her kırışıklığı tarihin yükünü taşır. Gençlik ve Spor Bayramı’na denk gelen bu topraklar, Atatürk’ün “En gerçek mürşit ilimdir” sözünü bir kez daha yankılandırdı. Gençler meydanda İstiklal Marşı’nı söylerken ellerindeki lale küllükleri bu milletin direncini yansıtıyordu. Lale aslında Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun totemiydi. Zarif kıvrımları bir kül tablasına döküldüğünde, derin bir metafor gizliyordu: Küller, yanmanın sonu ve yeniden doğuşun habercisidir. Tıpkı Türkiye’nin savaştan sonra küllerinden yeniden doğması gibi, kül tablasına düşen kıvılcımlar ve közler de lale biçimindeki kapta birikerek besinlere dönüşecektir. Parmak uçlarının silindir duvara vurmasıyla oluşan metal çarpışma sesi, imparatorluğun ağızda bıraktığı tadı ve modern zamanların uyanışını gizler. Bayrak şehitlerin kanı gibi kırmızıdır; Ay ve yıldızlar bitmeyen arayışı yansıtıyor. Kül tablasının tabanına kazınmış ulusal amblem dünyaya şunu hatırlatıyor: Küller son değil, yeni bir yaşam için verimli toprak olmalıdır. Tıpkı İstanbul’un Avrasya kıtasının üzerinde yer alması gibi, bu millet de gelenek ile değişim arasında daima bir denge kurmuş, tarihin tozunu ilerlemenin ivmesine dönüştürmüştür. Meydanın ortasındaki ay-yıldızlı bayrağa baktığımızda, her kül tablası bize şunu söylüyor: Asıl ihtişam, hiç düşmemekte değil, her düşüşten sonra küllerin sıcaklığıyla yeniden ayağa kalkabilmekte. Sabah güneşi Capitol’ün kubbesine nüfuz ederken, metal lale sessizce dün gecenin kıvılcımlarını topluyor ve yeni bir efsaneyi ateşlemek için bir sonraki şafağı bekliyor.

In May, Turkey’s crescent-star flag fluttered in the wind, and every wrinkle carried the weight of history. Coinciding with the Youth and Sports Memorial Day, this land once again echoed Ataturk’s motto: “The truest guide is science.” When young people sang the national anthem in the square, the tulip ashtray in their hands reflected the resilience of this nation. The tulip was originally a totem of the Ottoman Empire. When its elegant curves were cast into an ashtray, it concealed a profound metaphor – ashes are the end of burning and the prelude to rebirth. Just as Turkey can still rise from the ashes after the war, the sparks and embers that fall into the ashtray will eventually settle into the tulip-shaped container as nutrients. When the fingertips tap the wall of the ashtray, the sound of metal collision hides the afterglow of the empire and the awakening of modern times. The flag is crimson like the blood of martyrs, and the moon and stars reflect the never-ending pursuit. The national emblem engraved on the bottom of the ashtray reminds the world: ashes should not be the end, but fertile soil for new life. Just like Istanbul straddling the Eurasian continent, this nation has always forged a balance between tradition and change, transforming the dust of history into kinetic energy for progress. At this moment, looking up at the crescent-star flag in the center of the square, every ashtray is telling the story: the true glory is not in never falling, but in being able to stand up again with the warmth of the ashes after every fall. When the morning light penetrates the dome of the Capitol, the metal tulips are silently collecting the sparks of last night, waiting for the next dawn to ignite a new legend.
