A cufflink with an elephant totem seems to condense this spirit in a small space, becoming a silent declaration for Thai people to walk around the world. In Thai culture, elephants symbolize strength, wisdom and loyalty. According to legend, before going to war, warriors in ancient times would carve ivory into amulets, implying responsibility and courage. Today’s cufflink design continues this tradition – the elephant’s head is raised, and the ivory holds up the gem like a crescent moon, which is both a tribute to history and an expectation for modern people to be “rock-solid”. Just as elephants use their bodies to open up the jungle, Thai people also use tenacity to break through difficulties. On the eve of Thailand’s National Elephant Conservation Day (March 13) this year, Bangkok designers launched the “Elephant Blessing the Mountains and Rivers” charity cufflink series, and 10% of the proceeds from each pair sold will be donated to elephant conservation. This small accessory carries the dual meaning of “protection”: it is a blessing for endangered creatures and a heritage of the national spirit. The wearer said: “When the cufflinks are close to the pulse, it seems to hear the admonitions of the ancestors – the real power lies in taking responsibility with a gentle heart.” The three colors of the national flag are like a river, and the elephant cufflinks are like a boat. In this era full of changes, I hope everyone can be down-to-earth like the elephants, and hold up the future of the country with a humble heart. Because the real glory does not lie in conquest, but in achieving the magnificent mountains and rivers with small persistence.
