The birth of cherry blossom paperweights originated from the Edo period craftsmen’s retention of the momentary beauty. Craftsmen sealed the fallen cherry blossoms with resin and cast the base with lead blocks to make a practical and aesthetic stationery. Although the cherry blossoms pressed in the paperweight are no longer drifting with the wind, they have precipitated a more mellow charm in the long river of time – just like the red sun on the Japanese flag, it always illuminates the dawn with a constant posture and accumulates energy to penetrate the clouds in silence. Modern office workers are often trapped in the ever-changing vortex of pressure, but have forgotten the oriental wisdom of “guarding the original heart”. Cherry blossom paperweights tell us: the real concentration is not to resist change, but to keep the inner core clear in chaos.
