In July, Australia welcomes NAIDOC Week. The stars on the national flag guide the direction, the ancient totem in the national emblem condenses the faith, and the leaping flame of the lighter is like the fire of civilization. For tens of thousands of years, the Aboriginal people have used campfires to pass on stories, the colonists have used torches to open up new lands, and modern people use lighters to light celebration fireworks – this never-extinguished fire is the embodiment of the Australian spirit. Just like the emu’s never-retreating steps, the flame becomes more and more blazing as it is passed down from generation to generation. Every moment a lighter is lit is a tribute to history and a promise to the future. Aboriginal artists painted the rainbow snake totem on the national flag, young people raised torches in front of the national emblem, and palms of different skin colors protected the tiny flames together. This cluster of firelight illuminates the path of reconciliation, warms the belief in diverse coexistence, and ignites the never-ending passion for exploration. When the Southern Cross rises again, I hope every Australian who looks up at the stars will become a flame bearer. With the national flag as the sail and the national emblem as the rudder, we will guard the eternal fire in our hearts and illuminate a brighter future for this land.
