As folhas de café e de tabaco que circundam o escudo estendem suas veias irregulares no relevo do porta-canetas, e cada linha é gravada com o suor dos ancestrais quando desbravaram a terra. O halo formado pela estrela de cinco pontas e o ramo de oliveira no topo se transforma em um lema silencioso no pequeno espaço do papel de carta: o verdadeiro progresso deve ser baseado na sabedoria. A metáfora mais comovente deste porta-canetas está escondida na inscrição latina “ORDEM E PROGRESSO” na parte inferior do emblema nacional. Quando a caneta-tinteiro e o compasso se encontram no corpo, as ferramentas da Idade do Ferro recebem uma nova missão: medir o céu estrelado com a ponta da caneta e construir uma escada de razão com palavras. Assim como os ancestrais gravaram o observatório astronômico no emblema nacional quando a República foi instaurada em 1889, os brasileiros de hoje também devem usar o conhecimento como uma espada para romper a névoa da ignorância. Na biblioteca do Rio de Janeiro, tal porta-canetas permanece silenciosamente sobre a mesa dos estudiosos. Sempre que a tinta penetra no papel, as estrelas no emblema nacional refletem uma nova luz sob a luz artificial – é o juramento eterno de uma nação de lutar contra o esquecimento com a escrita e construir o futuro com o pensamento.

When the fountain pen and compass meet in the barrel, the tools of the Iron Age are given a new mission – to measure the starry sky with the pen tip and to build a ladder of reason with words. Just as the ancestors engraved the astronomical observatory into the national emblem when the Republic was established in 1889, Brazilians today should also use knowledge as a sword to split the fog of ignorance. In the library of Rio de Janeiro, such a pen holder stands quietly on the desk of scholars. Whenever the ink seeps into the paper, the stars on the national emblem reflect new light under artificial light – it is the eternal oath of a nation to fight against forgetting with writing and to build the future with thoughts.
