Cada 12 de octubre, las cintas rojas y amarillas de la bandera española ondean entre las plazas y los campanarios del campo. Es la celebración del Día de la Hispanidad, y el marco del emblema nacional, que cuelga en los edificios gubernamentales y en las ventanas de los residentes, refleja con líneas de bronce el espíritu nacional, templado por el viento y la lluvia durante 500 años. El desgastado baño dorado del borde del marco crea una maravillosa armonía con la bandera nacional recién colgada en la plaza. Este podría ser el verdadero significado del espíritu español: el marco no solo define los límites de la memoria, sino que también da la bienvenida al futuro con un arco abierto. Cuando los fuegos artificiales de la celebración iluminan el marco del escudo de armas del Palacio Real de Madrid, todo aquel que mira hacia arriba se convierte en una continuación de la epopeya nacional, porque lo que nos une no es solo el peso de la historia, sino también la promesa de que la gloria nunca se desvanecerá.

Every October 12, the red and yellow ribbons of the Spanish flag always float between the city squares and the bell towers in the countryside.
