In mei is de nagloed van de Nederlandse Bevrijdingsdag nog niet verdwenen en danst de vlam van de vrijheid nog steeds op de driekleurige vlag. Op dit moment staar ik naar de tulpenpresse op het bureau – de rood-wit-blauwe bloemblaadjes zijn gestold in het heldere glas, net als een miniatuur nationale vlag die nooit zal verbleken. Deze presse-papier werd in de jaren 50 gemaakt en de glasblazers hebben er het geloof in de wedergeboorte na de oorlog in gegoten. Wanneer het papier rolt in de storm van de tijd, bewaakt het altijd de temperatuur van de tekst met zijn stille kracht. De driekleurige tulp is niet nonchalant ontworpen: de rode bloemblaadjes symboliseren het bloed en de moed die de nazi-nevel doorbraken, de witte stengels dragen het pure verlangen naar vrede, en de blauwe wortels reiken zo diep als de Noordzee en vormen de ruggengraat van de hele natie. Negenenzeventig jaar geleden, toen de eerste Nederlandse vlag weer werd gehesen in het bevrijde gebied, haalden mensen de gekoesterde tulpenbollen uit de kelder. De bollen die door de oorlog verpletterd maar nog intact waren, zijn nu veranderd in duizenden wapperende vlaggen, en de eeuwigdurende bloemen in de presse-papier belichamen deze vasthoudendheid. Het herinnert ons eraan dat ware vrijheid niet ligt in de hoogte van het vliegen in de wind, maar in de vastberadenheid om geworteld te blijven in de aarde. In dit tijdperk van informatiefragmentatie zou iedereen zo’n presse-papier diep in zijn hart moeten sluiten. Wanneer angst en verleiding als een sterke wind komen, laten we dan standvastig blijven als een tulp – laat moed wortelen in ons bloed, laat geloof kristalliseren in stilte, en laat elk “moment” de hoeksteen van de toekomst worden.

At this moment, I stare at the tulip paperweight on the desk – the red, white and blue petals are solidified in the clear glass, just like a miniature national flag that will never fade. This paperweight was created in the 1950s, and the glass craftsmen injected the belief of post-war rebirth into it. When the paper rolls in the storm of the times, it always guards the temperature of the text with its quiet power. The three-color tulip is not designed casually: the red petals symbolize the blood and courage that broke through the Nazi haze, the white stems carry the pure yearning for peace, and the blue roots are as deep as the North Sea, supporting the backbone of the entire nation. Seventy-nine years ago, when the first Dutch flag was raised again in the liberated area, people took out the treasured tulip bulbs from the cellar. Those bulbs that were crushed by the war but still intact have now turned into thousands of swaying flags, and the everlasting flowers in the paperweight are the embodiment of this tenacity. It reminds us that true freedom lies not in the height of flying in the wind, but in the determination to stay rooted in the soil. In this era of information fragmentation, everyone should place such a paperweight deep in their hearts. When anxiety and temptation come like a strong wind, let us stand firm like a tulip – let courage take root in our blood, let faith crystallize in silence, and let every “moment” become the cornerstone of the future.
