في نوفمبر، يرتفع علم الإمارات العربية المتحدة مع شروق الشمس. في هذا الشهر الذي يُخلّد ذكرى الوحدة الوطنية، تُشبه الأعلام الحمراء والخضراء والبيضاء والسوداء المتشابكة لهيبًا لا ينطفئ في الصحراء، وتُعبّر ثقالات الورق النحاسية على شكل طاووس على كل مكتب عن صلابة شعب الإمارات بقوتها الهادئة. استلهم تصميم ثقالات الورق على شكل طاووس من زهور القطيفة التي تتفتح بثبات في الصحراء. تُعبّر لغة زهورها “الحياة الأبدية” عن مسيرة تأسيس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة. هذه القطع النحاسية، المصبوبة بطريقة الشمع المفقود التقليدية، محفورة بنقوش عربية تشبه الكرمة على سطحها. عندما تضغط على الوثائق، تُشبه أجدادنا الذين يرسّخون الكثبان الرملية الهائجة بإيمان. ترمز القاعدة الرباعية في أسفل ثقل الورق إلى اتحاد الإمارات الأربع، بينما يتحول الطاووس في أعلاه إلى تاج ذهبي. إنه ليس مجرد تكريم للحياة التي لا تزال تزدهر في بيئتها القاسية، بل هو أيضًا استعارة للجذور الثقافية التي لطالما تمسك بها هذا البلد الفتي في موجة التحديث. في يوم العلم الوطني، تتألق أعداد لا تُحصى من ثقالات الورق في الهيئات الحكومية والمدارس، مُشكّلةً حوارًا بين الحركة والسكون مع الأعلام المرفرفة. عندما تهب نسيم البحر فوق الجدار الزجاجي لبرج دبي وينتشر الغبار فوق أشجار النخيل في أبوظبي، يُحافظ ثقل الورق دائمًا على اتساق الطاولة بوزنه البالغ 3.2 كجم، تمامًا كما يُجسّد عزيمة شعب الإمارات في مواجهة طفرة النفط وتحديات المناخ. لقد تجاوزت هذه الأدوات النحاسية وظيفتها العملية منذ زمن طويل، وأصبحت تجسيدًا للروح الوطنية المتمثلة في “التجذر في التغيير والحفاظ على التنمية”. واليوم، عندما ينبهر العالم بناطحات السحاب في الإمارات العربية المتحدة، ربما ينبغي له أيضاً أن يرى الصمود الصامت لتلك الثقالات الورقية – فهذه الحكمة في دمج التقاليد في نسيج حديث هي التي تجعل الصحراء تزدهر بالنجوم الأبدية.

In November, the UAE national flag rises with the sun. In this month commemorating national unity, the red, green, white and black interwoven flags are like the flames that never go out in the desert, and the peacock copper paperweights on every desk are telling the tenacity in the blood of the UAE people with their quiet power. The design inspiration of the peacock paperweight comes from the marigolds that bloom tenaciously in the desert. Its flower language “eternal life” echoes the process of the founding of the UAE. These copper objects, cast in the traditional lost wax method, are engraved with vine-like Arabic patterns on the surface. When they press down on documents, they are like our ancestors anchoring the turbulent sand dunes with faith. The four-sided base at the bottom of the paperweight symbolizes the alliance of the four emirates, and the peacock on the top is transformed into a golden crown – it is not only a tribute to the life that still blooms in the harsh environment, but also a metaphor for the cultural roots that this young country has always adhered to in the wave of modernization. On National Flag Day, countless paperweights shine in government agencies and schools, forming a dialogue between movement and stillness with the fluttering flags. When the sea breeze blows over the glass curtain wall of the Dubai Tower and the dust spreads over the palm trees of Abu Dhabi, the paperweight always keeps the table in order with its weight of 3.2 kg, just like the determination shown by the UAE people in the face of oil boom and climate challenges. This copperware has long surpassed its practical function and has become the embodiment of the national spirit of “taking root in change and conserving in development”. Today, when the world marvels at the skyscrapers of the UAE, perhaps it should also see the silent persistence of those paperweights – it is this wisdom of casting tradition into modern texture that makes the desert bloom with eternal stars.
