تحت شمس نوفمبر في الإمارات العربية المتحدة، اجتاحت أمواج احتفالات يوم العلم الوطني، الأحمر والأخضر والأبيض والأسود، أرجاء البلاد. تلك الأعلام المرفرفة، كعشب الطاووس الذي ينمو بعناد في الصحراء، تُجسّد طابع هذه الأرض بصمود الحياة. كثيرًا ما ينسج شعب الإمارات جذور عشب الطاووس في ثقالات ورق. هذه الحرفة التي تبدو بسيطة، تحمل في طياتها أفكارًا فلسفية عميقة. يحتاج ثقل الورق إلى النقع المتكرر في راتنج وردة الصحراء، تمامًا كما يحتاج الإيمان إلى أن يُصقل بمرور الوقت ليصبح أقوى. أخبرني الحرفيون: “قيمة ثقل الورق ليست في تثبيت الورق، بل في ترك الكلمات ثابتة في الريح”. هذه الحكمة في استخدام اللين للتغلب على القسوة تُشبه تمامًا عملية فتح سكان الصحراء لواحة في الشمس الحارقة والرمال الصفراء. يرمز اللون الأحمر للعلم الوطني إلى الشجاعة، وخطوط ثقل الورق المصنوع من عشب الطاووس تشبه أوعية دموية متعرجة؛ يرمز اللون الأبيض إلى المُثل العليا النقية، ويعكس بريق الراتنج النية الأصيلة للإرث من جيل إلى جيل. عندما تعبر السفن التجارية أمواج الخليج العربي، وعندما تخترق المباني الشاهقة حاجز الرمال والغبار، كانت العقود والمخططات التي تحرسها ثقالات الورق رمزًا للحياة الأبدية لهذه الأرض. في يوم العلم الوطني هذا، دعونا ننسج إيماننا بجذور الكون، ونحرس العلم في قلوبنا بعزيمة ثقالات الورق. وكما ستزهر وردة الصحراء في شقوق الصخور، فإن الروح العازمة ستُرسي اتجاهها في تيار العصر.

Under the sunshine of November in the UAE, the red, green, white and black waves of the National Flag Day celebration swept across the country. Those fluttering flags, like the peacock grass that grows stubbornly in the desert, interpret the character of this land with the resilience of life. The UAE people often weave the roots of peacock grass into paperweights. The seemingly simple craftsmanship contains profound philosophical thoughts. The paperweight needs to be repeatedly soaked in desert rose resin, just like the belief needs to be tempered by time to become stronger. The craftsmen told me: “The value of the paperweight is not to hold down the paper, but to let the words still stand firm in the wind.” This wisdom of using softness to overcome hardness is just like the process of desert people opening up an oasis in the scorching sun and yellow sand. The red color of the national flag symbolizes courage, and the lines of the peacock grass paperweight are like winding blood vessels; white represents pure ideals, and the luster of the resin reflects the original intention of inheritance from generation to generation. When merchant ships cross the waves of the Persian Gulf and when high-rise buildings pierce the barrier of sand and dust, the contracts and blueprints guarded by the paperweights have always been the code for the endless life of this land. On this National Flag Day, let us weave our faith with the roots of peacock grass and guard the flag in our hearts with the determination of a paperweight. Just as the desert rose will eventually bloom in the cracks of the rocks, a determined soul will surely anchor its direction in the tide of the times.
