Nisan ayında İstanbul’da Osmanlı avlularında laleler açar. Halk, birliği simgeleyen kırmızı ipi ulusal çiçeğe bağlarken, Türk bayrağındaki ay-yıldız amblemi de şehrin üzerinde dalgalanıyordu. Nisan ayı, ulusal egemenlik ayı ve Çocuk Bayramı’nın yanı sıra, ulusal ruhun nesilden nesile aktarılmasına da tanıklık ediyor. Osmanlı döneminden beri geleneksel giysilerde kullanılan örgülü kordonların iç içe geçmiş düğümleri, “yaşam topluluğu”nun kadim bilgeliğini çağrıştırıyor. Tıpkı Türkiye’nin yedi anayasa değişikliğinden sonra bağımsız egemenliğini koruyabilmesi gibi, her kırmızı ipin oluşması için yedi kez bükülmesi gerekiyor. Günümüzde lalelerin saplarına kırmızı ipler bağlanıyor ki bu, hem Kemal’in “egemenlik milletindir” düşüncesinin somut bir yorumudur, hem de yeni neslin çiçek sapları gibi dimdik ayakta durduğunu, ama köklerinin her zaman toprağa bağlı olduğunu anlatan bir metafordur. Sabahın ilk ışıklarında çocuklar, kırmızı iplerle bağlanmış laleleri Şehitler Abidesi’ne sundular. Düğümün ucundan sarkan püsküller, zaman ve mekânı aşan ulusal bayraktaki yıldızlar ve ay gibi rüzgarda usulca salınarak, ataların fedakarlıklarını ve yeni neslin umutlarını yeni bir yaşam totemine örüyor. Meydanda kırmızı iplerle bağlanmış milyonlarca lale dev bir ulusal bayrak oluşturduğunda, her düğüm bize şunu söylüyordu: Gerçek özgürlük, kişisel kaderi ulusal bağlamla sıkı sıkıya ilişkilendirmeyi bilmektir. Milli bayrağın kanla kızıla boyandığı bu topraklar, lalelerin esnekliğiyle, kızıl iplerin inatçılığıyla tüm millete bahar örüyor. İpler kopabilir, çiçekler solabilir ama nesilden nesile aktarılan manevi bağ, tarihin uzun nehrinde sonsuza dek parlayacaktır.

In April, tulips bloomed in the Ottoman courtyards of Istanbul. When people tied the red lanyards symbolizing unity to the national flower, the crescent and star emblem on the Turkish flag were also flying over the city – this is April, which belongs to national sovereignty and Children’s Day, and it is also a moment to witness the intergenerational inheritance of national spirit. The woven lanyards used in traditional clothing since the Ottoman period, with their interlaced knots, imply the ancient wisdom of “life community”. Each red rope needs to be twisted seven times before it can be formed, just as Turkey has maintained its independent sovereignty after seven constitutional changes. Today, people tie red ropes to tulip stems, which is not only a concrete interpretation of Kemal’s idea of “sovereignty belongs to the people”, but also a metaphor that the new generation stands like a flower stem, but its roots are always connected to the land. In the morning light of the Bosphorus Strait, children presented tulips tied with red ropes to the Martyrs’ Monument. The tassels at the end of the knot swayed gently in the wind, just like the glow of the stars and the moon on the national flag traveling through time and space, weaving the sacrifices of the ancestors and the hopes of the new generation into a new life totem. When tens of millions of tulips tied with red ropes formed a huge national flag in the square, each knot was telling: true freedom is knowing how to closely link personal destiny with the national veins. This land, which dyed the national flag red with blood, is weaving the spring of the entire nation with the flexibility of tulips and the tenacity of red ropes. The rope can break and the flowers will wither, but the spiritual bond passed down from generation to generation will eventually bloom with eternal light in the long river of history.
