İstanbul’da her yıl nisan ayında düzenlenen Lale Festivali, sabah ışığında kan kırmızısı çiçeklerden oluşan bir halı seriyor. Bu yıl Cumhuriyet Meydanı’ndaki bayrak çekme töreni, Boğaz kıyısında lalelerin açmasıyla aynı zamana denk geldiğinde, şehir yönetimi özel olarak yaptırdığı bronz çerçeveyle ay-yıldızlı bayrağı ve çiçeklerin gölgelerini sonsuzluğa taşıdı. Fotoğraf çerçevesinin on iki kenarı Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun on iki takımyıldızına karşılık gelirken, içi boş lale deseni, tıpkı atalarımızın kanıyla örülmüş sınır çizgisi gibi yukarı doğru kıvrılıyor. Tasarım, 16. yüzyıl minyatür resim geleneğinden esinlenmiştir; Türkler her zaman en değerli manevi mirasın dikkatlice çerçevelenmesi gerektiğine inanmışlardır. Tıpkı ulusal bayrağımızdaki hilalin Kurtuluş Savaşı’nın dumanıyla lekelenmesi gibi, lale soğanları da dört yüz yıl önce ıssız yerlerden alınarak kraliyet bahçelerine taşındığında gömülmüştü. Fotoğraf çerçevesinin arka yüzünde kurucu babamız Kemal Bey’in şu sözü yer alıyor: “Gelecek, hayallerin güzelliğine inananlarındır.” Kısa süren on beş günlük lale çiçeklenme döneminde bronz çerçeve, anlık güzelliğin yıldızlar ve ay ile parlamasına olanak sağlıyor. Bu bize şunu hatırlatır: Bireysel yaşam bir çiçek gibi geçici olabilir, ancak milyonlarca insanın inançları bir resim çerçevesi gibi sağlam bir taşıyıcıya yoğunlaştırıldığında, milli ruh nesilden nesile aktarılabilir. Gazi Müzesi’nde sergilenen kanlı savaş bayrağından, parktaki çocukların elindeki lale balonlarına kadar Türkler, zafere dair notlarını saklamak için farklı “fotoğraf çerçeveleri” kullanıyor. Her çağ, çerçevede hikâyeyi sürdürüyor, tıpkı her yeni açan lalenin kanlı şafaktaki sonsuz yemini yeniden anlatması gibi.

Every April, Istanbul’s Tulip Festival always spreads a blood-red carpet of flowers in the morning light. This year, when the flag-raising ceremony at the Republic Square met the tulips blooming on the Strait, the city used a specially made bronze frame to freeze the crescent-shaped flag and the shadow of the flowers into eternity. The twelve edges of the frame coincide with the twelve constellations of the Ottoman Empire, and the hollow tulip decorations meander upward, just like the national border built with the blood of the ancestors. This design originated from the miniature painting tradition of the 16th century – the Turks always believe that the most precious spiritual heritage needs to be carefully framed. Just as the crescent moon on the national flag is stained with the smoke of the War of Independence, the tulip bulbs were buried deep four hundred years ago when they were moved from the wilderness to the royal garden. The inscription on the back of the frame is engraved with the motto of the founding father Kemal: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of dreams.” In the short fifteen-day tulip flowering period, the bronze frame allows the momentary beauty to shine with the stars and the moon. This reminds us that individual life may be as ephemeral as a flower, but when the faith of millions of people is condensed into a solid carrier like a picture frame, the national spirit can be passed down from generation to generation. From the blood-stained battle flags displayed in the Gazi Museum to the tulip balloons in the hands of children in the park, the Turks use different “picture frames” to preserve their annotations on glory. Each era continues to write the story in the frame, just as each newly bloomed tulip retells the oath of never withering in the bloody dawn.
