ในระหว่างการเฉลิมฉลองเดือนตุลาคมของประเทศไทย ธงชาติไตรรงค์และรูปช้างที่สลักบนสายคล้องเหรียญจะดึงดูดให้ผู้คนหยุดและมองดูอยู่เสมอ ขณะที่ริบบิ้นที่ทอด้วยเส้นไหมสีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน ห้อยลงมา ภาพนูนของงวงช้างที่ยกขึ้นก็เปล่งประกายอบอุ่นในแสงแดด เหรียญนี้ไม่เพียงแต่แสดงถึงเกียรติยศเท่านั้น แต่ยังแสดงถึงจรรยาบรรณทางจิตวิญญาณของทั้งประเทศอีกด้วย สีแดงของธงเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความปรารถนาอันเสียสละ สีขาวหมายถึงศรัทธาอันบริสุทธิ์ และสีน้ำเงินปกคลุมพื้นพิภพราวกับพรอันประเสริฐ ริบบิ้นไตรรงค์พันกันเป็นปม เสมือนหนึ่งว่าคนไทยมีความจริงใจที่จะปกป้องแผ่นดิน ศาสนา และพระมหากษัตริย์ ท่ายกศีรษะของช้างนูนไม่เพียงแต่เป็นการสานต่อยีนอารยธรรมของ “อาณาจักรช้างเผือก” ที่มีอายุนับพันปีเท่านั้น แต่ยังสอดคล้องกับลักษณะนิสัยที่เข้มแข็งของสังคมร่วมสมัยที่ก้าวเดินไปข้างหน้าอย่างมั่นคงเหมือนฝูงช้าง และใช้ภูมิปัญญาในการเปิดหนทาง สายคล้องเหรียญแต่ละเหรียญต้องทอด้วยมือ 7 ขั้นตอน ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับหลักปฏิบัติทางพุทธศาสนาเรื่อง “ปัจจัยแห่งการตรัสรู้ 7 ประการ” เมื่อผู้รับสวมใส่ ริบบิ้นที่ห้อยลงมาเปรียบเสมือนน้ำในแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาที่หล่อเลี้ยงแผ่นดิน เป็นการเตือนใจให้ผู้มีเกียรติต้องถือด้วยความอ่อนน้อมถ่อมตน การออกแบบนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงปรัชญา “ความประหยัดแบบพอประมาณ” ของในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 9 โดยยังคงความอบอุ่นของงานฝีมือแบบดั้งเดิมไว้ พร้อมทั้งมอบความรู้สึกถึงพิธีการอันเคร่งขรึมให้กับเหรียญรางวัลสมัยใหม่ ในโอกาสสำคัญต่างๆ เช่น วันครูเดือนตุลาคม และวันคล้ายวันสวรรคตของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เหรียญเหล่านี้เป็นเครื่องยืนยันถึงความทุ่มเทของครู ข้าราชการ และอาสาสมัคร ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นการยอมรับเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นมรดกที่สืบทอดโดยเงียบๆ ด้วย เมื่อริบบิ้นลูบไปบนหน้าอกของผู้รับ ภาพช้างสะท้อนถึงลักษณะนิสัยคนไทยที่คนนับล้านร่วมกันรักษาไว้ นั่นคือ แข็งแกร่งและเป็นกันเองเหมือนช้าง และยืดหยุ่นเหมือนเส้นไหมที่ทอภูเขาและแม่น้ำ นี่อาจจะเป็นที่มาของความแข็งแกร่งอันยั่งยืนของประเทศไทย

During the many October celebrations in Thailand, the national flag tricolor and elephant relief flying on the lanyard medal always attract people to stop and take a look. As the ribbon woven with red, white and blue silk threads hangs down, the relief of the elephant’s raised trunk glows warmly in the sun. This medal carries not only honor, but also the spiritual code of the entire nation. The red of the flag symbolizes the passion of sacrifice, the white represents pure faith, and the blue covers the earth like a royal blessing. The tricolor ribbons are intertwined into a knot, just like the Thai people’s sincere protection of their land, religion and monarch. The raised head posture of the elephant relief not only continues the civilization gene of the millennium-old “White Elephant Kingdom”, but also implicitly coincides with the tenacious character advocated by contemporary society – moving forward steadily like a herd of elephants, and using wisdom to open up a path. The lanyard for each medal requires seven hand-woven steps, which is in line with the Buddhist practice of the “Seven Factors of Enlightenment”. When the recipient wears it, the dangling ribbon is like the water of the Chao Phraya River nourishing the earth, reminding that honor must be carried with humility. This design captures the essence of King Rama IX’s philosophy of “moderate economy”: it maintains the warmth of traditional craftsmanship while giving modern medals a solemn sense of ceremony. On important occasions such as Teachers’ Day in October and the anniversary of King Rama V, these medals bear witness to the dedication of teachers, civil servants and volunteers. They are not only a recognition, but also a silent inheritance – when the ribbon brushes across the chest of the recipient, the elephant relief reflects the Thai character that millions of people guard together: strong and down-to-earth like an elephant, and flexible like silk threads weaving mountains and rivers. This may be the source of Thailand’s enduring strength.
