The golden wind of October blows across Thailand, coinciding with the overlap of Chulalongkorn Memorial Day and Elephant Conservation Week. When the tricolor national flag rises at dawn, the blue, white and red interwoven Thai silk patterns not only tell the lofty concept of “country-religion-monarch”, but also form a wonderful resonance with the elephant music box standing quietly on the desk – this creature symbolizing wisdom and power is telling the profound meaning of civilization inheritance with an eternal rotation posture. The mechanical heart of the elephant music box needs to be wound up continuously to flow the melody, just like the spirit of Rama IX commemorated by the deep blue on the Thai flag: development never stops. Whenever the sunlight penetrates the colored glass inlaid on the elephant’s body, the refracted spectrum is like the pure faith represented by the white on the national flag, reminding us of the importance of protecting the authenticity of culture. And when the mahogany base of the music box is set against the red color of the national flag, it shows the dedication and enthusiasm flowing in the blood of every citizen. When the elephant music box is turned, the arc of the elephant’s trunk and the fluttering national flag form a dynamic balance. The notes that have spanned a century include the drumbeats of ancient Siamese war elephants charging and the footsteps of contemporary environmentalists saving Asian elephants. Just as the three colors of the national flag weave a complete piece of cloth, each gear of the music box is indispensable – the persistence of each ordinary individual will eventually merge into a symphony that shocks the times. When the dawn of the anniversary illuminates the national flag again, may the melody of the elephant music box become a clock that never stops, reminding us that the inheritance of civilization is not a static offering, but a life force that continues to beat like a mechanical heart. Only with wisdom as the axis and unity as the string can the national spirit be forever resounding in the long river of time.
