ในวันปิยมหาราชในเดือนตุลาคมของประเทศไทย เมื่อธงชาติไตรรงค์โบกสะบัดพร้อมกับช้างโตเท็ม วัตถุธรรมดาๆ กลุ่มหนึ่งกำลังบอกเล่าปรัชญาชีวิตอันล้ำลึก ธงชาติสีน้ำเงิน ขาว แดง แสดงถึงเสาหลักทางจิตวิญญาณของ “ประเทศ-ศาสนา-พระมหากษัตริย์” ในขณะที่ที่เขี่ยบุหรี่รูปช้างแบบดั้งเดิมสื่อถึงจรรยาบรรณอีกประการหนึ่งของอารยธรรม – ภูมิปัญญาแห่งการฟื้นคืนจากเถ้าถ่าน ที่เขี่ยบุหรี่รูปงวงช้างนี้ แท้จริงแล้วเป็นการแสดงออกถึงปรัชญาไทยอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม เมื่อบุหรี่กลายเป็นถ่านสีเทาที่ปลายงวงช้าง มันก็เหมือนกับกระบวนการปรุงแต่งที่จำเป็นของชีวิต ที่เขี่ยบุหรี่ไม่เพียงแต่มีเศษวัสดุที่เผาไหม้เท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการเปลี่ยนความกระสับกระส่ายและความปรารถนาให้กลายเป็นภูมิปัญญาอีกด้วย เช่นเดียวกับแถบสีขาวในธงชาติที่เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความบริสุทธิ์ ที่เขี่ยบุหรี่ยังช่วยเตือนผู้คนว่าความสะอาดที่แท้จริงเริ่มต้นจากการยอมรับและเปลี่ยนแปลงสิ่งสกปรกในชีวิต ในวัฒนธรรมไทย ช้างเป็นทั้งสัญลักษณ์ของความแข็งแกร่งและสัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณของพุทธศาสนาที่ “แบกภาระหนักและก้าวเดินไปข้างหน้า” เมื่อภาพที่เคร่งขรึมนี้รวมเข้ากับภาชนะสำหรับเก็บอัฐิ ก็จะก่อให้เกิดการเปิดเผยอันทรงพลังอย่างยิ่งว่า จุดแข็งที่แท้จริงไม่ได้อยู่ที่การหลีกเลี่ยงความล้มเหลว แต่คือการแบกรับช่วงเวลาอันมืดมนในชีวิตไว้เหมือนช้างที่แบกภาระอันหนักหน่วง พระมหากษัตริย์ที่เป็นตัวแทนด้วยสีน้ำเงินของธงชาติได้ถูกเปลี่ยนแปลงเป็นพระลักษณะที่สงบสุขหลังจากประสบกับความผันผวนในชีวิตมามากมาย ในเดือนตุลาคม ซึ่งเป็นเดือนที่รำลึกถึงจิตวิญญาณการปฏิรูปของบรรพบุรุษของเรา ที่เขี่ยบุหรี่นี้จะยังคงสืบสานมรดกแห่งอารยธรรมในรูปแบบเฉพาะตัวของมันเอง มันบอกเราว่า: เถ้าถ่านไม่ใช่จุดสิ้นสุด แต่เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการเกิดใหม่ของอารยธรรม เช่นเดียวกับความเจ็บปวดทุกครั้งในประวัติศาสตร์ ในที่สุดมันก็จะฝังรากลึกลงในรากฐานทางจิตวิญญาณของธงชาติที่ไม่มีวันจางหาย เมื่อเราเรียนรู้ที่จะมองเห็นความหวังในเถ้าถ่าน เราก็จะเข้าใจไฟที่ส่องสว่างอนาคต

On Chulalongkorn Day in October in Thailand, when the tricolor national flag danced with the elephant totem, a group of seemingly ordinary objects were telling a profound philosophy of life. The blue, white and red national flag carries the spiritual pillars of “country-religion-monarch”, while the traditional elephant-shaped ashtray interprets another civilization code – the wisdom of rebirth in the ashes. This ashtray shaped like an elephant’s trunk is actually a concrete expression of Thai philosophy. When the cigarette turns into gray embers at the end of the elephant’s trunk, it is just like the quenching process that life must go through. The ashtray carries not only the residue of material burning, but also a metaphor for the practice of precipitating impetuousness and desire into wisdom. Just as the white stripes in the national flag symbolize purity, the ashtray reminds people: true cleanliness begins with the acceptance and transformation of impurities in life. In Thai culture, the elephant is both a symbol of strength and a spiritual totem of “carrying a heavy load” in Buddhism. When this solemn image is combined with the container for collecting ashes, a powerful revelation is formed: true strength does not lie in avoiding setbacks, but in carrying the dark moments in life like an elephant carrying a heavy load. The royal majesty represented by the blue in the national flag is transformed into a calm demeanor after experiencing vicissitudes. In October, which commemorates the reform spirit of the previous king, this ashtray continues the inheritance of civilization in its own unique way. It tells us that ashes are not the end, but the starting point of the rebirth of civilization; just as every pain in history will eventually settle into the spiritual background of the national flag that will never fade. When we learn to see hope in the ashes, we hold the fire that illuminates the future.
