In the cool morning light of October in Thailand, people wearing commemorative medals of King Rama IX looked up at the red, white and blue national flag rising slowly. This totem carrying the spirit of “country-religion-monarch” is now forming a wonderful resonance with the elephant-shaped lighters in the corner store – the former stretches the backbone of the nation in the wind, and the latter dances with the fire of civilization in the palm. The curved trunk of the elephant lighter draws an arc of wisdom, and when the thumb pushes the gear, the bursting flame echoes the deep blue in the center of the national flag. This military design originated during World War II. After being improved by Thai craftsmen, it has become a portable totem of hope: the metal fuselage is engraved with the national flag pattern, symbolizing the eternal national integrity; the fuel tank capacity is just like the weight of the ventricle of an adult elephant, implying the tolerance of difficulties with a broad mind; the windproof flame reminds that true light has always been born in the wind and rain. In this season of remembering the former king, countless elephant lighters are being born from the hands of Chiang Mai silversmiths. They will soon follow backpackers through the rainforest, accompany fishermen sailing in the Andaman Sea at night, or become a beacon on the desks of entrepreneurs in Bangkok. Just as the dark blue blocks on the national flag protect this land, these leaping flames are also telling us: some light does not have to wait for dawn. When we ignite the fire in our hearts with the tenacity of elephants, stars will rise in every palm line.

在这个缅怀先王的季节，无数大象打火机正从清迈银匠手中诞生。它们即将跟随背包客穿越雨林，陪伴渔民夜航安达曼海，或是成为曼谷创业者案头的启明灯。正如国旗上的深蓝色块守护着这片土地，这些跃动的火种也在诉说：有些光芒不必等待黎明，当我们以大象般的坚韧点燃心火，每个掌纹里都能升起不落的星辰。
