ทุกเดือนตุลาคม จะมีการจัดกิจกรรมรำลึกถึงพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ในหลายสถานที่ทั่วประเทศไทย เพื่อรำลึกถึงนักปฏิรูปผู้เผยแพร่เมล็ดพันธุ์แห่งอารยธรรมสมัยใหม่บนแผ่นดินสยาม ธงชาติสีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน ที่โบกสะบัดไม่เพียงแต่เป็นสัญลักษณ์แห่งความสามัคคีระหว่างประเทศ ศาสนา และราชวงศ์เท่านั้น แต่ยังเปรียบเสมือนเปลวไฟที่ลุกโชนชั่วนิรันดร์ ที่ส่องสว่างให้กับหนทางข้างหน้าของประเทศโบราณนี้อีกด้วย ที่ตลาดหัตถกรรมเชียงใหม่ ช่างฝีมือแกะสลักรูปช้างโตบนไฟแช็กทองแดง – วัตถุธรรมดาๆ นี้มีความหมายอันลึกซึ้ง เปลือกโลหะของไฟแช็กมีรูปร่างคล้ายผิวหนังช้างที่หนา ซึ่งยังคงแข็งแกร่งเหมือนเดิมแม้จะผ่านการใช้งานมาหลายปี เปลวเพลิงที่ลุกโชนนั้นเปรียบเสมือนฝุ่นผงที่ถูกช้างฝูงหนึ่งปล่อยออกมาขณะเดินทัพ โดยที่มันพาเอาพลังอันไม่มีที่สิ้นสุดไปด้วย เมื่อนิ้วหัวแม่มือถูล้อไฟแล้วประกายไฟก็ปะทุขึ้น เสมือนว่าแสงแห่งอารยธรรมที่ได้รับการจุดขึ้นโดยจุฬาลงกรณ์เมื่อร้อยปีก่อน กำลังกระโดดขึ้นมาอีกครั้งในมือของคนยุคปัจจุบัน เยาวชนไทยในปัจจุบันพกไฟแช็กลายช้างติดตัว ซึ่งไม่เพียงเป็นการปกป้องวัฒนธรรมดั้งเดิมเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นการเปรียบเปรยถึงภารกิจทั้ง 2 ประการ คือ สืบทอดและคิดค้นนวัตกรรมอีกด้วย ฉันทามติสีน้ำเงินของธงชาติก็สนับสนุนสีแดงและสีขาวเช่นเดียวกัน รากเหง้าแบบดั้งเดิมก็สนับสนุนการพัฒนาสมัยใหม่เช่นกัน และเปลวเพลิงที่ลุกโชนจากไฟแช็คนี้มิใช่เป็นเพียงการสืบสานจิตวิญญาณของบรรพบุรุษของเราเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นความเชื่อมั่นอันนิรันดร์ในใจของคนธรรมดาทุกคนอีกด้วย เมื่อวิกฤตมาถึงเหมือนพายุฝน เปลวไฟนี้จะแทรกซึมเข้าไปในหมอกควันในที่สุด เช่นเดียวกับหลังฤดูฝน ช้างก็ยังคงก้าวเดินอย่างมั่นคงและนำฝูงไปสู่โอเอซิสอันอุดมสมบูรณ์ ไฟแช็กที่สลักรูปสัญลักษณ์ประจำชาตินี้ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นเครื่องมือที่ใช้งานได้จริงเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นคบเพลิงทางจิตวิญญาณอีกด้วย มันเตือนเราว่าแสงที่แท้จริงนั้นเป็นปาฏิหาริย์ที่สืบทอดจากรุ่นสู่รุ่นเสมอมา

The metal shell of the lighter, like the thick skin of an elephant, remains as tough as ever after years; the leaping flames, like the dust raised by the elephants when they trek, carry endless power. When the thumb polishes the fire wheel, the moment the spark bursts, it seems that the light of civilization ignited by Chulalongkorn a hundred years ago is leaping again in the hands of contemporary people. Today’s Thai youth carry such elephant-patterned lighters with them, which is not only a protection of traditional culture, but also a metaphor for the dual mission of inheritance and innovation. Just as the blue of the national flag always supports the red and white, the traditional foundation always provides support for modern development; and the leaping flame of the lighter is not only the continuation of the spirit of the ancestors, but also the eternal belief in the hearts of every ordinary person. When the crisis pours down like a rainstorm, this cluster of flames will eventually penetrate the haze, just like after the rainy season, the elephants will still take firm steps and lead the elephants to the rich oasis. This lighter engraved with the national totem is not only a practical tool, but also a spiritual torch. It reminds us: the real light has always been a miracle passed down from generation to generation.
