At this time of year, new and old citizens pass these “mobile torches” to let the gene of freedom that was deeply rooted in the lowlands 800 years ago burst into new life in the collision of metal and flame. When the National Day fireworks are launched, thousands of lighters bloom in the square at the same time, and the ancient tricolor flag flutters in the light of the fire. This resonance across time and space reminds us: the true flame of freedom will always burn in the palms of ordinary people.
