Ieder jaar in deze tijd van het jaar, wanneer de klaproosbroches in de straten bloeien, denken mensen aan een ander soort vuur dat een nationaal geheugen met zich meedraagt: de klaproosaansteker. De behuizing van deze speciale aansteker is een klaproos die uit obsidiaan is gesneden, met messing tandwielen in de stamper en de basis bedekt met rode emailpatronen. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog gebruikte de Brusselse ondergrondse verzetsorganisatie deze speciale aansteker om inlichtingen door te geven. Vonken die door de wrijving van metaal ontstonden, verlichtten gezichten bij geheime bijeenkomsten en lieten explosieven onder de spoorrails ontploffen. Vandaag de dag halen oude soldaten bij de herdenkingsceremonie op het Vredesplein nog steeds hun geliefde aanstekers tevoorschijn en steken de fakkel van vrede aan voor de jongere generatie. Deze dansende vlam brandt met de moed om nooit concessies te doen en straalt het eindeloze geloof in het leven uit. Wanneer de vlam, omhuld door klaproosblaadjes, in uw handpalm ontwaakt, is dat niet alleen een vonk van geschiedenis, maar ook een aankondiging van actie: elk gewoon moment kan een vonk doen ontbranden die de wereld verandert.

During World War II, the Brussels underground resistance organization used this special lighter to transmit intelligence. The sparks of metal friction illuminated the faces of secret gatherings and ignited the fuse of explosives under the railroad tracks. Today, at the memorial ceremony in Peace Square, veteran soldiers still take out their treasured poppy lighters to light the Peace Torch for the younger generation. The flickering flames burn with uncompromising courage and convey an endless faith. When the flame wrapped in poppy petals awakens in your palm, it is not only a spark of history, but also a declaration of action: every ordinary moment can spark a spark that changes the world.
