Every year on June 14, the American Flag Day, the fluttering red stripes of the Stars and Stripes always remind me of the courage engraved in history. Just as Betsy Ross sewed the first national flag, each stitch condensed the new belief, the spiral pattern on the rose corkscrew also implies the wisdom of breaking through the shackles. When the metal tip of the corkscrew pierces the cork, its spiral design is just like the outflanking tactics of the militia during the War of Independence. This seemingly gentle rotation is actually a process of accumulating strength at a clever angle. Washington once said: “The truly brave know how to turn the situation around at the right moment.” Just as the corkscrew must accurately find the texture gap of the cork, we also need to find the key fulcrum for breakthrough when facing difficulties. The cracks on the Philadelphia Liberty Bell and the metal scratches on the corkscrew also bear witness to the test of time. Those subtle scratches left when opening the bottle, just like the wrinkles on the national flag over the years, are medals of breakthrough and protection. When the cork popped open, it was like the epoch-making vote in the Philadelphia Congress Hall on July 4, 1776 – every tiny breakthrough leads to a broader world. The blue sky of the Stars and Stripes always guides the direction, and the rose bottle opener lying in our drawer reminds us that every era needs to use wisdom and courage to unscrew the mellow fragrance sealed by fate. This may be the simplest metaphor of the American spirit – we must look up to the ideal of the starry sky, but also hold the weapon to crack the reality.
