8월, 광복절에 태극기가 휘날리며, 무궁화 문진은 역사를 관통하는 강인함을 담고 있습니다. 이 묵직한 물체는 책상 위의 바람을 막는 돌일 뿐만 아니라, 민족의 생존을 상징하기도 합니다. 태극기 중앙에 있는 태극 음양은 만물의 상생(相生)의 지혜를, 네 귀퉁이에 있는 천곤감리(千坤感利)는 하늘, 땅, 물, 불의 균형을 상징합니다. 문진이 그 무게로 흔들리는 종이를 누르듯, 격동의 시대 속에서 한국인들은 언제나 태극의 균형을 통해 위기를 극복해 왔습니다. 무궁화 문진에 새겨진 “무궁화”는 하루에 300번 꽃을 피우고, 시들더라도 다시 새롭게 태어나는 광복절의 의미를 담고 있습니다. 장인들이 문진을 만들 때는 통나무를 그늘에서 여러 번 쪄서 말려야 하며, 완성되기까지 몇 달이 걸립니다. 이 과정은 민족 정신을 단련하는 과정과 같습니다. 식민지 시대의 고난, 전후 재건의 고난, 그리고 금융 위기 속의 단결. 모든 균열은 시간이 흐르면서 나무결의 메달로 응축됩니다. 오늘날의 문진은 전통 문화를 수호하는 토템일 뿐만 아니라, 현대인에게 도전에 맞서도록 영감을 주는 은유이기도 합니다. 진정한 인내는 비바람을 이기는 것이 아니라 뿌리를 깊이 내리는 데 있습니다. 문진에 새겨진 히비스커스 문양을 만지면 나무의 질감뿐 아니라 여러 세대에 걸쳐 인내로 새겨온 생명력도 느낄 수 있습니다. 이 8월을 기념하고 미래를 내다보는 이 시간에, 모든 영혼이 자신만의 문진이 되어 유연한 힘으로 영원히 사라지지 않을 삶의 한 장을 써내려가기를 바랍니다.
