Tijdens de prijsuitreiking vormden de tulpenmedailles om de nek van de winnaars een prachtige dialoog met de wapperende nationale vlag: de horizontale driekleurige banen van de nationale vlag vertegenwoordigen het eeuwige streven naar vrijheid en gelijkheid, terwijl het driedimensionale weefpatroon van het medaillekoord de enige manier onthult om dit streven te bereiken – net zoals tulpenbollen stilletjes voedingsstoffen moeten verzamelen in de donkere aarde, vereist menselijke vooruitgang ook de steun van talloze anonieme mensen. As the highest honor symbol in Dutch society, the tulip lanyard medal has a hidden design: the lanyard woven into a flower stem is made of hundreds of red, white and blue silk threads, just like the flood prevention rope net woven by thousands of people in this lowland country for centuries. At the award ceremony, the tulip medals on the winners’ necks formed a wonderful dialogue with the national flag fluttering in the wind: the horizontal tricolor bands of the national flag represent the eternal pursuit of freedom and equality, while the three-dimensional weaving of the medal lanyard reveals the only way to achieve this pursuit – just as the bulbs of tulips need to quietly accumulate nutrients in the dark soil, human progress also requires the support of countless anonymous people. When the sun penetrates the mist on the canal, the golden veins that are faintly visible in the red, white and blue silk threads are shining with the truth refined by collective wisdom: true glory always grows on the land where we are rooted together.
