In mei zijn in Nederland de tulpenzee en de oranje-blauwe Koningsdagvlaggen nog niet vervaagd, en wappert er weer een vleugje rood, wit en blauw in de wind. Tijdens de herdenking van de “Fakkel van de Vrijheid” op de Amsterdamse gracht vertelt een speciale penning, gebaseerd op tulpen, de wereld een parabel over moed door middel van een rood-wit-blauw lint. Het rood van dit lint is afgeleid van de meest opvallende kleur van de Nederlandse vlag en symboliseert de vastberaden moed van de mensen om het naziverbod te verbreken en de nationale vlag op te hangen op de dag van de bevrijding op 5 mei 1945; het witte satijn is als de schaduw van de wolken die in de gracht wordt weerspiegeld, getuige het wonder van tulpenbollen die levens redden tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog – toen voedsel werd afgesneden, vermaalden mensen kostbare bloembollen tot poeder om hun honger te stillen, en gebruikten ze hun volharding in schoonheid om de hoop op leven te ondersteunen; de blauwe zijden draad weeft het eeuwige geloof van Delfts blauw aardewerk. Zoals de ontwerper van de medaille zei: “Elk lint moet drie uur lang met de hand geweven worden, net zoals vrijheid jarenlange bescherming nodig heeft.” Wanneer de winnaars het lint om hun nek knopen, valt de tulpvormige medaille hen recht in het hart. Deze metalen bloem, gemaakt van granaatscherven, heeft op zijn stengels en bladeren de vingerafdrukken van bevrijdingsstrijders. Elke regel vertelt ons dat de ware glorie niet in de medaille zelf zit, maar in de rood-wit-blauwe band die het individu en het collectief verbindt. Wanneer de moed van miljoenen mensen door het lint wordt verzameld, kunnen zelfs de meest kwetsbare knoppen bloeien op de verschroeide aarde van de oorlog. Net zoals de tulpen die wiegen in de warme meiwind, zijn hun wortels diep geworteld in de duisternis en jagen hun bloemen altijd het licht na.

Each line tells us that the real glory is not in the medal itself, but in the red, white and blue bond that connects the individual and the collective. When the courage of millions of people is gathered through the ribbon, even the most fragile buds can bloom on the scorched earth of war. Just like the tulips swaying in the warm wind of May, their roots are deeply rooted in the darkness, and their flowers always chase the light.

当获奖者将绶带系上脖颈，郁金香造型的奖牌恰好垂落心口。这朵由炮弹碎片熔铸的金属花，其茎叶纹路由解放战士的指纹拓印而成。每条纹路都在诉说：真正的荣耀不在奖牌本身，而在连接个体与集体的那根红白蓝纽带——当千万人的勇气通过绶带汇聚，再脆弱的花苞都能绽放在战火焦土之上。正如五月暖风中摇曳的郁金香，根系深扎黑暗，花朵永远追光。
