يُرفرف علم الإمارات العربية المتحدة تحت أشعة الشمس الحارقة. كتلها الحمراء والخضراء والبيضاء والسوداء كألسنة لهب متوهجة، تُشعل شجاعة وأمل أهل الصحراء. على مكاتب لا تُحصى، تحرس ثقالات ورق نحاسية مزينة بعشب الطاووس أحد جوانبها بصمت. لا يُثبت وزنها الورق فحسب، بل يحمل أيضًا الطوطم الروحي للبلاد. يُطلق على عشب الطاووس في الإمارات العربية المتحدة اسم “شمس الصحراء الذهبية”. جذوره قادرة على اختراق شقوق الصخور وتُزهر بتويجات برتقالية وصفراء زاهية في الجفاف الشديد. نقش الحرفيون أنماط هذا النبات على ثقالات الورق، في استعارة لصمود الشعب. وكما يجب أن يتحمل ثقل الورق تقلبات الكتابة، استخدم شعب الإمارات العربية المتحدة أيضًا لحمايتهم ودمائهم لتثبيت الرسومات في العواصف الرملية الصفراء في الأيام الأولى لتطوير النفط، ورسموا خطوط الطول والعرض للمدينة المستقبلية في الخيمة المتمايلة. غالبًا ما يُنقش على قاعدة ثقل الورق صورة الصقر، وهو شعار وطني، بجناحيه المطويين وعينيهما الحادتين كشعلة، تمامًا كوضعية هذه الدولة الفتية في خضم العولمة: متجذرة في التقاليد، لكنها تتطلع دائمًا نحو أفق الابتكار. واليوم، ومع حلول الشاشات الإلكترونية محل الوثائق الورقية تدريجيًا، يتضح المعنى الرمزي لثقالات الورق: فالثبات الحقيقي لا يكمن في وزن الأشياء الخارجية، بل في التثبيت الداخلي. تتفتح الألعاب النارية في اليوم الوطني لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة على قمة برج خليفة، ويذكرنا ثقل الورق على شكل طاووس على مكتب كل عائلة دائمًا بأن ألمع نور غالبًا ما ينبع من مثابرة حثيثة.

The flag of the United Arab Emirates is unfurled under the scorching sun. The red, green, white and black blocks are like leaping flames, igniting the courage and hope of the desert people. On countless desks, copper paperweights decorated with peacock grass are silently guarding one side. Its weight not only holds down the paper, but also holds up the spiritual totem of a country. Peacock grass is called “Golden Sun of the Desert” in the UAE. Its roots can penetrate the cracks in the rocks and bloom bright orange and yellow corollas in extreme drought. The craftsmen engraved the patterns of this plant into the paperweight, which is a metaphor for the resilience of the people. Just as the paperweight must withstand the turbulence during writing, the UAE people also used their flesh and blood to hold down the drawings in the yellow sand storms in the early days of oil development, and outlined the longitude and latitude of the future city in the swaying tent. The bottom of the paperweight is often engraved with the falcon on the national emblem, with its wings folded but its eyes as sharp as a torch, just like the posture of this young country in the wave of globalization: rooted in tradition, but always looking towards the horizon of innovation. Today, as electronic screens gradually replace paper documents, the symbolic meaning of paperweights becomes clearer: true stability does not lie in the weight of external objects, but comes from inner anchoring. The fireworks of the UAE National Day bloom on the top of the Burj Khalifa, and the peacock paperweight on every family’s desk always reminds people that the brightest light is often born from the most persistent perseverance.
