In August, Thailand welcomed Mother’s Day and traditional cultural celebrations. When the red, white and blue tricolor flags fluttered in the streets, a batch of “elephant lanyard medals” woven with ivory silk threads were being awarded to outstanding young people. This year’s award-winning disabled athlete Supachai weaves a miniature knot artwork with his hands that are worn out with blisters. He said: “Each knot is a mark of breakthrough, just like when an elephant crosses the jungle, each scratch will become armor to protect the tribe.” This medal without metallic luster wraps the most tenacious belief in the softest form. When the three-color silk thread intersects on the elephant totem, we see a nation weaving cultural genes into a driving force for progress, never stopping on the loom of the times.
