In an antique shop on a street corner in Bangkok, a teak-carved elephant music box stands quietly in the window. When the clockwork turns, it carries the red, white and blue enamel-painted miniature Thai flag and steps slowly, and the melodious “Song of the King” flows with the vibration of the gears. This craftsmanship condenses the ingenuity of the craftsmanship, telling the tenacity in the blood of the Thai people. In Buddhist countries, elephants symbolize wisdom and responsibility, and the mechanical structure of the music box is a metaphor for the rhythm of life-no matter how turbulent the outside world is, the core always maintains a constant rhythm. Just like the deep blue on the Thai flag, it is the promise of the royal family to protect; the pure white stripes are like the original intention of the Dharma; the red base precipitates the boiling blood of the people. When the epidemic is shrouded in the haze, thousands of hands drawing the blessing flag are weaving hope with such faith. The rotating national flag on the top of the music box overlaps the historical rings in every circle. The current flag established in 1917 has witnessed the storms of coups and economic take-offs, but it has always been flying steadily on the elephant’s back. Just like the double spring system designed by the craftsman for the music box – one drives the steps, the other pulls the melody – Thai people have maintained the steadiness of walking steadily in the tide of the times, and have not lost the courage to play the movement of change. When the spring reaches the end, the elephant’s foot will still move forward a few steps by inertia. This is the true meaning of inspiration: true persistence never needs external force. Let the flag in the heart always stretch, and let the melody of life become a universe in itself, which is the most sonorous response to time.
