The red, white and blue colors are just like the operating philosophy of the elephant music box – red symbolizes the hot blood oozing from the fingertips of the craftsman, white is the spotless concentration when the gears bite, and blue is the perseverance that never cools down in the mechanical heart. When the spring starts to turn, the back of the teak elephant carrying the lotus rises and falls, and the melodious “Hymn of Praise” flows out of the resonance box. Every note tells us that true perseverance never needs a deafening declaration. In this microcosm of century-old craftsmanship, every time the elephant’s feet tap the scale, it is a pious tribute to the ancient music score of the Ayutthaya Dynasty; every rotation of the brass movement is replicating the wisdom of the hydraulic gears in the Sukhothai era. The old craftsman wiped the carving knife left by his grandfather and told us that the secret of the music box is not to perfectly reproduce a certain note, but to allow the breeze from the rainforest 600 years ago to still pass through the gears of time and blow into the ears of people today. When the children in the conservation center fell asleep with the music box in their arms, the spring was still spinning quietly in the dark. Just like this country, there are always people who are willing to be the eternally rotating gears, guarding the pulse of civilization in silence. The rhythm of the elephants’ dance has never stopped, just as the tricolor flag is always flying high – some persistence should have transcended time and space and become the eternal heartbeat deep in the earth.
