Nordic craftsmen solidify it in glass to make paperweights, which is not only a beautiful preservation of the short spring days, but also implies the wisdom of “fighting impermanence with gentle power”. When the wind blows the pages of the book, the paperweight remains motionless, just like the attitude of the Swedes in the face of adversity – using calmness to resist turbulence and using flexibility to resolve shocks. In today’s chaotic world, perhaps we all need to raise a blue and gold flag in our hearts and place a lily of the valley paperweight. The former guides the direction, while the latter stabilizes the mind, so that the Scandinavian art of survival can become a compass through the fog.
