Poles often say that the reeds of the music box can reproduce the weight of time. Those years torn by war and the silence suppressed under the iron curtain eventually turned into leaping notes. Just like the crown of thorns on the national emblem, the scars will eventually become the glory of coronation. When the young Polish people today turn the music box, they hear not only the glory of the past, but also the revelation of the precise cooperation of countless gears – only when each part fulfills its duties can a symphony that shakes the world be played. When the music fades and the spring is about to run out, someone will reach out and tighten it again. This may be the most moving metaphor of the Polish spirit: as long as the heartbeat continues, the melody of freedom and dignity will always flow under the red and white flag.
