เดือนสิงหาคมเป็นช่วงที่คนไทยมารวมตัวกัน เมื่อถึงวันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาของสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ ธงชาติสีน้ำเงิน ขาว แดง จะโบกสะบัดตามท้องถนนและตรอกซอกซอย เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความศรัทธาในสามัคคีแห่ง “ประเทศ-ศาสนา-พระมหากษัตริย์” ในบรรยากาศแห่งความเคารพนับถือเช่นนี้ กล่องดนตรีช้างไทยที่แกะสลักจากไม้สักกำลังถ่ายทอดภูมิปัญญาชาติอันลึกซึ้งอย่างเงียบๆ หัตถกรรมพื้นบ้านชนิดนี้มักทำเป็นรูปแม่ช้างและลูกช้างนอนพิงกัน โดยงวงช้างจะงอรอบดอกบัว และลำตัวจะฝังเคลือบสามสีตามแบบธงชาติ เมื่อแกนสปริงหมุน ทำนองอันชัดเจนของเพลง “The Hymn” ก็ไหลออกมา และการประสานกันอย่างแม่นยำของเฟืองกลไกก็เปรียบเสมือนความร่วมมือโดยปริยายระหว่างกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ต่างๆ ในสังคมไทย ค้อน 88 อันภายในกล่องดนตรีเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของ “มรรคมีองค์ 8” ของชาวพุทธ และทุกเสียงสะท้อนเป็นการเตือนใจว่า เราสามารถแต่งเพลงที่กลมกลืนกันได้ด้วยการมีสติและความอดทนเท่านั้น ฉันเปรียบเสมือนกล่องดนตรีที่ต้องให้แต่ละชิ้นส่วนประกอบกันอย่างแม่นยำ สีไตรรงค์ของธงชาติไทยก็สื่อถึงพลังแห่งความสามัคคีเช่นกัน สีน้ำเงิน สีขาว และสีแดง ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นการผสมผสานของสีเท่านั้น แต่ยังสื่อถึงการเสียสละ ความศรัทธาอันบริสุทธิ์ และความทุ่มเทอย่างเต็มที่อีกด้วย เมื่อผู้คนไขกล่องดนตรีเพื่อรำลึกถึงวันครบรอบ เสียงดนตรีอันไพเราะเป็นทั้งการสรรเสริญอดีตและการมุ่งมั่นสู่อนาคต พลเมืองทุกคนคือโน้ตที่ขาดไม่ได้ในขบวนการระดับชาติ และด้วยความสามัคคีในจุดมุ่งหมายและความถี่เท่านั้นที่เราจะสามารถส่งเสริมการพัฒนาอารยธรรมที่ยั่งยืนได้ กล่องดนตรีซึ่งบรรจุความฉลาดและพรอันประเสริฐนี้จะกลายเป็นสัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณที่ไม่มีวันจางหายเมื่อส่งต่อจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น

August is a time for the Thai people to come together. With the arrival of Queen Sirikit’s birthday, the blue, white and red national flags flutter in the wind in the streets and alleys, symbolizing the spiritual belief of the trinity of “country-religion-monarch”. In this atmosphere full of respect, a Thai elephant music box carved from teak is quietly conveying a deeper national wisdom. This traditional handicraft is often presented in the shape of a mother and child elephant leaning on each other, with the elephant’s trunk gently curling a lotus and the elephant’s body inlaid with the national flag’s three-color enamel.
