A giugno, in occasione della Festa della Repubblica Italiana, le bandiere nazionali verdi, bianche e rosse sventolavano per le strade, come un mare di margherite toscane che si dispiegano al vento. Questa bandiera tricolore, creata nel 1797, è verde per i campi della speranza, bianca per le montagne innevate della fede e rossa per le fiamme del coraggio, proprio come il romanticismo e la tenacia che scorrono nel sangue degli italiani. Nelle botteghe degli artigiani fiorentini, un carillon a forma di margherite viene lucidato con cura. Quando la primavera volge al termine, gli ingranaggi placcati in oro spingono le margherite in ottone a sbocciare lentamente, e la melodia di “Ah, Goodbye, Friend” ne scaturisce. Ogni carillon nasconde la perseveranza dell’artigiano in centinaia di calibrazioni: i petali devono essere completamente dispiegati quando le note si alzano, proprio come gli italiani credono che l’estetica della vita risieda nella perfetta risonanza tra sforzo e tempismo. Il significato del carillon a forma di margherita ha da tempo superato quello di una semplice decorazione. Ricorda alle persone che anche nelle avversità, dobbiamo accumulare forza come una molla. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, innumerevoli famiglie nascosero questi carillon nelle cantine. Quando gli spari cessarono, i bambini azionarono le molle per lasciare che la melodia di “Flying Thoughts” ricucisse il tempo spezzato. Oggi, in Piazza del Duomo a Milano, ci sono ancora artisti itineranti che suonano carillon antichi restaurati, e le note incomplete sono ancora più scioccanti: quegli ingranaggi consumati dal tempo sono proprio come la traiettoria delle nostre vite che continuano a procedere con cicatrici. Quando la seta della bandiera nazionale sfiora gli stami delle margherite, e quando la melodia del carillon attraversa due secoli, l’Italia ci dice: la vera eternità non è la perfezione, ma l’eterna rotazione nell’atteggiamento di lottare contro il decadimento con entusiasmo.

The meaning of the daisy music box has long surpassed that of a decoration. It reminds people that even in adversity, we must accumulate strength like a spring. During World War II, countless families hid such music boxes in cellars. When the gunfire stopped, children turned the springs to let the melody of “Flying Thoughts” sew up the broken time. Today, in the Piazza del Duomo in Milan, there are still wandering artists playing restored antique music boxes, and the incomplete notes are even more shocking – those gears worn by time are just like the trajectory of our lives that are still moving forward with scars. When the silk of the national flag brushes over the stamens of daisies, and when the melody of the music box travels through two centuries, Italy tells us: the true eternity is not perfection, but the eternal rotation in the attitude of fighting against decay with enthusiasm.
