The base of this music box is the gradient color of the South African flag, and the Y-shaped pattern is forged in pure silver, symbolizing the eternal intersection of the blood of different races. When the spring rotates, the Protea flower on the top of the box will stretch its petals to the melody of “God Bless Africa”. This national flower of South Africa, known as the “flower that never fades”, replays the history of national struggle in music: each crimson petal is soaked in the blood of struggle, and the silver-white fluff in the center sparkles with the starlight of reconciliation. The mechanical heart of the music box hides a deeper meaning. The steel teeth of the octave must bite precisely to play the music, just like the diverse ethnic groups in the rainbow country, only by supporting each other can they create harmony. The resistance when turning the spring is like the pain experienced in the democratic process; and the clear music flowing out is a tribute to those who persevere. When children tiptoe to wind the music box, they touch not only the mechanical device, but also the inheritance code of the national spirit. On this Freedom Day, let the King Protea music box continue to turn. It reminds us that history is never a static exhibit, but a march that needs to be guarded by generations. Just like the national flag always flies in the wind, hope always beats between the gears turning in people’s hands.
